Mid 80s 150 Mercury Black max

I have the serial number 6551090 stamped on the back bracket. Cant find this number anywhere.. Also, searched the Belgium serial numbers... Any ideas why or what year this motor is? Where on motor would I find the serial number stamped? thanks for help

on early models with all numbers and or start with a letter (pre fat block) you need ta add a "0" (zero) in front... if on a merc marine site usually adds 0 for ya.... ya might get lucky with a number stamped on tha welsh plug.. looks like a freeze plug on top of tha block.....

that number with 0 added comes out a 60 hp motor on merc marine site?
double check tha numbers for being what ya say!.. if just one is off it will screw up tha whole thing....

also if one bleed line springs a leak might be time ta replace all of 'em

1looks like it falls around 1984-1985 As Duke said double check the serial number b/c any conventional search didn't work, and lists the 60.

Is there a possibility the bracket plate could be from a 60 hp motor and it had the 150 put on it?

no.... did you get any "paper work" ie: title, registration etc. with tha motor?

ok.. as for year, there is a build date stamped on tha block... its at tha base of number two cylinder on tha "block half".. kinda behind tha bend in tha timin' arm.. stamped 1/8" numbers.. m/d/yr... might be hard ta find/see but its there.....

may or may not be a bad thing... did ya find tha build date?.. look for a WH XX number on top of a carburetor, on tha flange.....

On starter 2-21-84
Stamped on block 858 8346

go here... there is a picture of tha area where you will find tha build date.... have never seen a block without it goin' back all tha way to 1976!.. click on tha pic after ya open it to make it bigger... you will barely see tha stamp...
