OFFICE OF CONGRESSMAN TIM WALBERG

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: MATT LAHR

AUGUST 3, 2007 (202) 225-6276

Walberg decries House Democrats abuse of House rules to Give Taxpayer Dollars to illegal immigrants
Congressman says democrats will go to "tyrannical measures" to benefit illegal immigrants

WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) today made the following statement after House Democrats changed the result of a vote last night to give welfare to illegal immigrants.

"This week's actions make it clear that House Democrats will go to extraordinary, tyrannical measures to direct taxpayer dollars to illegal immigrants.

"Earlier this week, House Democrats passed a bill that, if made into law, will take millions of dollars in Medicare Advantage funds away from seniors to give health care to illegal aliens.

"If that wasn't bad enough, last night House Republicans were victorious in passing an amendment banning illegal immigrants from receiving food stamps and welfare in the agriculture appropriations bill, but Democrats, in a corrupt display of crass political power, erased the facts and changed the result of vote to benefit illegal immigrants."

"This shameless power grab forced House Republicans to vacate the floor of the House to demonstrate their privileged responsibility of representing their constituents, not illegal immigrants, had been violated.

"It was shocking to me to see that House Democratic leadership is more committed to making sure illegal immigrants are paid, fed and taken care of with taxpayer dollars than caring for taxpayers themselves."

Background:
Last night House Democrats gaveled the close of the vote before receiving the actual vote tally card from the clerk, a violation of parliamentary rules written primarily by Thomas Jefferson and used in the House for over 200 years

This is an unprecedented event in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives

###

-------------------------------

My comment: As if we needed we needed more proof that democrats don't care about solving the illegal immigration problem. It's a sad day when those elected to represent the American people instead choose to represent non-citizen criminals.

This is why I have a seething dislike of dems! The heck with the American people they say!!! Absolutely sickening! God help us if they get the White House in 08.

I wonder what the dems of this forum will come up with as an excuse for this traitorous behavior!

"banning illegal immigrants from receiving food stamps and welfare in the agriculture appropriations bill"

Typical political hackery! Both sides do it. Stick something having nothing to do with a bill into the bill. Probably not the one and only reason the bill didn't pass. For once, I'd like to see a clean bill introduced. Keep the kitchen sink in the kitchen.

Judging by the Congressman's ferver (squealing like a stuck pig), he was obviously the hack that hacked it in there.

This is an interesting case. It is the first time on record, which doesn't mean a whole lot, as the democrats had the vote esponged from the record. They gaveled the vote closed and they inadvertantly lost their own vote. At this point the measure had passed. The democrats didn't want it to pass, so they simply eliminated it. This is illegal. This is offensive to any and all Americans.

Consistant with liberal thinking they changed the vote after the fact and then eliminated it from the record. They not only rewrote history they had it removed from the books. There are many ways for the party in charge to ensure that measures go the way they want, like leaving the voting open for hours until they twist enough arms to get what they want. Not good form, but legal. This is something totally new to our system as far as I know.

Just another example of political parties out of control. This is an attack on our system and everyone regardless of affiliation should be angered and looking for remedies. Thanks Lil' Nancy for bringing us the most corrupt congress in history. Those of you looking to hang Gonzales should be going ape over this miscarriage. A measure was passed by a duely constituted body, where is our law? Some will argue that this was a procedural issue, but it isn't. It is playing god.

Re: Mikes Political Troll...sorry :)

Gimme a break guys. Remember your buddy Lindsay Graham threatening democrats to "Clean your clock?" That little near-fiasco would've trashed this pathetic excuse of a bill anyhow had they followed through. They would've changed a 2/3 vote to a simple majority vote leaving themselves completely in charge of what amendments passed and what amendments didn't. It would've CHANGED THE CONSTITUTION! Now that the Dems are in charge, sure would've backfired bigtime, eh? So don't come crying to us about Politicians Playing Politics!

So tell me, what do Food Stamps and Welfare have to do with an Ag Bill? :p:confused::p

Why should I? Food Stamps and Welfare don't address Farm specifics. Oh wait! They Do! Neocons want to take it away from Ag's Slaves. You know, the folks that help feed you?

Like it or not, children born on US soil to illegals Are US Citizens. Are you against feeding your fellow Americans that have no way of feeding themselves?

Question answered. Wouldn't it be easier for you to just start your own tread? I would imagine the concept of a thread is that there is a specific topic to be discussed. I believe this is a discussion of congressional procedures and protocol's.

I'd like to hear from the party of the people before passing judgement on alleged procedural anomolies.

RF, your constant accusations of people that don't march in lockstep with the Neocon ideology of misguided conservatism as being traitors has gone beyond tiresome. Go along with your hero hatemongers Limbaugh and O'Reilly if you must. But most of the rest of the planet realizes that just because somebody doesn't agree doesn't make them a traitor! Exceptions include Al Qaeda.

Willy, do you need to hear the opinions of others to form your own?

Liberal thinking.

Punish employers for hiring illegals to actually work, with fines and other measures.

Meanwhile handing out welfare on the government dime, and not deporting those known to be illegal.

Kool-aid anyone?
