why do you say I pretty much have to remove the drive when replacing the engine?? I thought thats what the alignment tool was for??

Your drive shaft is inserted into the engine coupling with the outdrive installed. Without removing the outdrive, the engine would have to be slid forward to clear the driveshaft before it could be removed.

If you're close to me, you are more than welcome to use my alignment tool

I have plenty of room to slide the engine forward for removal but from what I have read it would be a PITA to put the new engine back in and you still might not be aligned. I just ordered an alignment tool off ebay. Thanks though.

You want to be taking that drive off annually anyway to check u-joints, gimbal bearing and alignment. Time to learn how to do it. I just had mine off Saturday. Took me less than 30 minutes to remove, check and grease everything and reinstall.

You can remove the engine without removing the drive. It's been done. Sure makes it easier to get out with the drive off.. Dang well makes it easier to install the new engine with it off..

Drive removal is easy..

Buy ya a couple of extra gaskets to do outdrive removals in the future.. They are cheap

Picked up a 92 4.3L last night for $350, pretty good deal if it runs I think. I will take the drive off tonight since I have never had that off and check u-joints, gimbal bearing. Hopefully I will see the water sometime this summer.

Re: "Milkshake" oil/water coming up through valve cover vents

The more I read today im wondering if I have the corret model 4.3L or not. Does anyone know if you can tell by looking at the outside of the long block if the motor has the balanced shaft or not?? Everything looks very similar but I dont want to take it to far apart and find out it is the wrong block. With the fuel pump, there is a hole that goes in the bottom left of the block but there are no threaded holes to hold the fuel pump on there like there is with my original boat motor??? I can take the motor back and get a different one if it is not right but I would rather not have to put the whole thing back together to do that.

Looks like I have to add an electric fuel pump. I found a wire diagram on another post that shows the correct way to wire in a electric pump so it doesnt run if the key isnt turned off. I just want to make sure I understand it. You wire on to the starter and ground the other correct?? Anything else you guys have to add would be great. I wanted to use the mechanical pump but it is too late now so this is my only option.

I forgot that you need to wire in a oil pressure switch. The spitfire ignition already has an oil pressure switch so I can just splice into that wire, correct?? Also, there is a overflow line that runs from the carb to the mechanical fuel pump. The electric pump does not have a spot to connect this to, im confused on where this would go?? Thanks.

Yeah that line is to help keep fuel vapors out of the engine compartment.. Where to run it now ya don't have a mechanical fuel pump? No sure.. Going to have to rig up something..

It's going to be a rig fest.. HMMMM How come you can't take the oil pressure switch from one engine and move it to the other?. That stupid splitfire crap is crazy.. Computer controlled crap... Has to get a signal from different components to work.. That how I understand it.. Someone might know more about it...

what if I take the overflow line, go from the carb and put a T-fitting into the vent tube coming from the valve covers?? If gas were to overflow it would then just go into the vent tube and up into the flame arrestor and flood the motor out. Anyone see a problem with this??

No that won't work... You are introducing fuel and fuel vapors to the engine compartment.. That is what you are trying not to do..

Since you have no where to run the line.. You may have to make a vent to outside hull for it.. Install some type of check valve on it..
