Re: milky cylinder

I'd have to see a picture of the rectifier on your motor. The one from Radio Shack will work, and yes you will be able to tell if the rectifier is working correctly once you get it running.

Re: milky cylinder

i'm about ready to start it, i have spark at all 4 now, i have a question about the timing, my flywheel doesnt have numbers, it has a set of 3 lines, someone put a white mark on the center one, and a line by itself someonw painted white, i'm assuming the single one is for timing while cranking?

Re: milky cylinder

The mark by itself is TDC, Top Dead Center or 0?. The mark on the center line between the 3 lines is 30? advance. The 30? mark is your reference mark for setting the timing with the throttle at WOT. If the only thing you've done is pulled the flywheel and replaced the stator, you probably haven't changed the timing.

Re: milky cylinder

Are you familiar with setting the timing using the "static timing" method? Static timing method you use the starter to spin the motor and don't actually allow it to run. You pull all the spark plugs and leave them attached to the spark plug wires. Run a ground wire from the body of each plug and attach the other end of the wire to the engine block.

Re: milky cylinder

Ok here we go, started the boat last weekend and it was going in forward gear but not reverse, i could put it in reverse by hand, i had to pull the cable past the little dimple at the lower unit and tighten the clamp for it to work in both gears, checked this morning worked fine, got it to the lake, backed it off the trailer, and no forward gear, is there an adjustment that essentially will shorten the cable, it seems i have too much "throw" there? something I'm missing i hope
