I do live where it got freezing. I made sure to run all the water out of it though.do you live where it got freezing cold a few weeks back?
if so, did you winterize?
Checking compression today.Looks like you blew a head gasket ou have a cracked head. Time to check compression and air pressure test the cooling system.
Fresh. Nope. Been running cool. It looks mostly like the sludge follows the whole seal of the intake. Cleaning now.The GM small block is pretty robust, usually when this happens its either freezing water got trapped somewhere and cracked a head, intake or block or a past overheat weakened the head gaskets and you get water in the oil.
Salt or fresh water? Any overheats in the past?
as in pull the 4 plugs, probe the ports and pull the hoses?I do live where it got freezing. I made sure to run all the water out of it though.
Yep a few. Just pulled all plugs and they are all clean no sludge. Running compression now.Need to do a couple oil changes.
I'd be worried from the look that the motor is pumped full of water from a crack --a manifold, the engine block or head--, all the same as far as filling the motor up and pooping oil water mix out the breather and onto the flash arrestor.
Noas in pull the 4 plugs, probe the ports and pull the hoses?
Then how did you winterize it? There is a drain on each side of the block one on each manifold and you pull the lower end of the big hose at the front circulation pump. Each drain hole has to get poked with a pick or thin screwdriver due to rust flakes clogging the holes sometimes.
What is gonna be my benefit from doing this? Before you start taking too much apart learn how to air pressure test your cooling system. The thermostat housing has to be in place to do this. In fresh water I doubt your intake rotted out, it happens here in salt but even so I’m still using my original 1988 intake used in salt about 20 years worth
I didn’t say I winterized it just ran all the water out as in I had ran it every couple days for a few weeks leading up to the freeze in the driveway with no muffs for about 10-20 seconds. As I knew this would help with water removal. Then how did you winterize it? Also I am not 100% sure this motor wasn’t taken in salt water before I owned it.Before you start taking too much apart learn how to air pressure test your cooling system. This may have blown some water out of the exhaust manifolds but would have done little to remove water from your block. There's also a good chance you've cooked your lower unit water pump impeller by running it dry.I didn’t say I winterized it just ran all the water out as in I had ran it every couple days for a few weeks leading up to the freeze in the driveway with no muffs for about 10-20 seconds.
