Motor runs backward, I changed polarity of the feed wires then it would not turn. I have found through a search that I may need to switch polarity at the circuit board. Can anyone tell me which two wires to swap?

Re: Minn Kota 65 runs backward

Ok need some more information here.

Is this a transom ount motor with forward and revearse? Or is this a bow mount with only forward speeds?

Its fairly commor for people using a transon mount on the bow to spin the head 180degrees. This allows for 5 forward speeds while the tiller handle is pointing backwards. This is why I ask.

If its a bow mount trolling motor I can't think of any conceivable reason to want to revearse the direction of the motor. True revearsing the polarity on the exit side of the maximizer circuit going to the motor would revearse the motor, but why would someone want to in the first place.

Are you sure the prop is on correctly?

Someone has probably replaced the brushes in the motor and connected them to the opposite wires. You can either swap the connections at the battery, I'm assuming it's an AT 65? if so swap the cable connected to the momentary/continuous switch in the foot controller (the center is the ground). move it to the connector on the 5 speed switch. just swap those two connections and you'll be in business... or you can take the motor back apart and swap the brush/connections. It's DC voltage so as long as you turn the voltage supply around the motor will spin the opposite direction and if it's anything like my AT 70, the prop only goes on one direction.

You don't need to switch polarity anywhere unless someone else already did it wrong. The wires wouldn't get switched in normal use.

Do tou have the manual? Does the company have a tech support or customer service department? You might ask them for help.

It could also be just the motor housing(magnets) rotated 180* out of position. Pull the prop, loosen and pullout the 2 screws, rotate the middle housing, tighten screws, plug in and check.
Ask me how I know this?

Reversing the prop will not reverse the thrust. Pitch is rotated 180?, so is still on the same angle. But the trailing tips will now be leading, and grab weeds.

oops, I just noticed, that post is 19 months old! I guess the OP has it sorted by now....
