OK, what you describe is correct. That should be a very easy fix and I don't understand how you messed that up. You should be able to see where that is leaking pretty easily.

Is your skeg still in tact? No bending or anything? i would love to see a pic of the outdrive after a spill like that

Its running down the hose from somewhere that I cant see with the outdrive on. Do I need to remove the outdrive and housing to do this? Could it just be a cracked hose? It appears to be attached to a brass nipple. Is that stationary?

Skeg is fine. Only damage is flat spot on the part that looks like a bullet

There is no fluid at the helm with typical I/O power steering ;) And yes the wheel should turn when the drive is manually turned.

I'm used to Teleflex systems and the fluid resevoir is at the helm on those. Just taking a guess it might be similar.

exactly, Oil is running down that from the boat side. What is likely the problem? It only drips when I turn the outdrive to the left too??

It ain't brass! It's nylon. They used to be brass in the early transoms. If you break that fitting, you won't be happy about that either! The aft fitting in the bell housing is brass, not much of a chance to break it.
Anything that has anything with steering & power steering has to be done inside the boat.
If you understood power steering, you would realize that without the engine running you have no power assistance hydraulically from the pump on the front of your engine to the power steering cylinder located at the transom. That doesn't mean start the engine & go back to try to move it by hand, it won't work that way. It's normal for the drives to go left & not right due to valve configuration in the cylinder.
That hose can be changed. It ain't fun but a little patience, you can do it.

Thanks, so do I need to remove the outdrive and housing to replace it? It looks identical to gc picture. Do I just cut that wire tie? Replace it with a wire tie or clamp?

Yes, cut the ty-wrap. Ideally, replace it with same type. It is the type that makes a full circle when tight. The other end probably has a nylon "squeeze clamp" on it. You can use either type of clamp on that 1.

So its necessary to remove the outdrive and housing?

Frankly, I can't image how the outdrive couldn't have been damaged somehow with the whole weight of a 26 foot boat on the skeg. If it were my boat, I wouldn't be able to trust it with myself or loved ones in it until I knew the extent of the damage. Get it checked out, don't cut corners on this one.

Hook the boat up, get in your car, drive boat to professional, have them look at it. You're gambling with too much here.

It can be done with everything left in place.
Being a '97 & that hose being as marginal as it was, chances are all the rubber back there is close to it's experation date. Get a tech's opinion on it.
