Image018.jpgUn-covering the boat the ammonia in the plates stung my eyes and made my nostrils itch instantly. A few minutes later my tongue has a ick taste on it and my face itches...... Mahogany is feeding and loves it..... lol......

The color is becoming deeper like a gold. Grain is more pronounced. She squeaks when I pressure my fingers across her......

Will wait till after Bud Bash to put her in the splash at Peaches, Houghton Lake, Mi. Think I'll run her like this and oil her in the fall?

That's how oak mission furniture was darkened prior to staining to get that deep dark tone to the grain.

Increasing the tannin in the wood can improve the effect of ammonia, I think you can brew very strong tea & wet out the wood. It also helps when you need to blend an area that for some reason didn't deepen as much as the rest.

I would place some thin layer of oil to protect it and to prevent the bleaching from the sun. I would hate to hear that it lightens back up from the sun and water........... it could un-do all of your efforts.

Thanks Bob_VT, that is a precaution that I should realize. Sometimes I miss the obvious and eliminate all that is obscure. Sort of like doing things backwards sometimes,,, lol.

IMAG0010.jpg Keeping with the original un-restored thing. I am keeping the battery what where it is, under the middle bench. Following the wire with the ridge on it, it was easy to see how a boat is wired.

IMAG0018.jpg Carry over from the fifties. Wires and connector in great shape. It's ambidextrous as far as polarity. Supposing it's standard marine fare....

IMAG0014.jpg Certain color within the wood keep changing.

Good luck. :) Some people warm it up in a bucket before going to the first launch to make sure it starts and is warmed up. Of course it also depends on how far you have to drive/tow.

I was very confused looking through the 1st page and then I saw Bob's chastising, so I was able to put the rest together, so-to-speak. Some folks just like to "hate" I suppose. Regardless, loving this old girl. As a hobbyist luthier, I'm a huge fan of all things Mahogany....ribboned or not. There's ways to "enhance" the ribboning, should you ever choose to do so. Good luck.

Destination is five miles to test here in Belleville before dipping in Lake Houghton. Running so far on previous plugs, relishing local assisting pals, marine volunteers....

Re: Miss Peachtree

After running the Fastwin in a can for a few seconds there was no water spray from the little hole. Checked out some clips on You Tube, the rookie here pulled the prop piece off and there it is, broken rubber. What is up with this, little big chunks as little as little big chunks can get! Isn't there a design upgrade in this day and age?

I'm thinking just to be cool, and safe, I'll install a water temperature gauge up by my steering wheel, along with a vintage Dodge ignition switch when it comes time to mount the mighty amp start Ski-Twin. Come to think of it why not a couple remote mixture dials right there too.... I think in pictures....

IMAG0114.jpg Oh ****, broken screw....

IMAG0115.jpg Weld a *** on it for vice screwin'.....

Virtually hours away from weighing trailer and plating. Will use bunks with practice carpet applied. Do them up proper during the off season...

Miss Peachtree is turning gold. At night under my streetlight the visual as I look moving is like the bird on my debit card. Thinking of finding a second hand humidifier and putting it under the tarp with ammonia in it????
