Model AND hp?

I have a Mercury OB344033 Serial number. Previous Owner says it's a 50hp but the cover is not the original cover so I want to be sure with what I'm dealing with. Is the model anywhere on the engine ans what year is this. Again, owner said it was 1986.

OB344033 is a 3 cyl, 50 HP, 1988

I agree with what you posted, but am curious how you determined it is 50hp and not a 60hp?

To tell you the truth I just looked under 50HP and there it was. After looking again I see it could be a 45HP, 1988, 4 cyl or a 60HP, 1988, 3 cyl or a 1988, 50HP, 3 cyl. Good catch. Looks like a call to the dealer might be needed.

Definitely a 1988 3cyl 50 or 60. I just don't have a way to determine which. I know some members have direct access to the merc database, and with a serial number can pinpoint exact information including original sales data. Thought perhaps you had another way. Onwards we go. Thanks.

Wow, thanks for the reply. It is a 3-cyl. Anyone out there with hookup to the Merc-data-base? I'm using it on a 24ft-pontoon and it definitely out performs my buddy's 50hp merc on a 18ft pontoon, so it might be the 60 but I'd hope to get confirmation. Thanks again!
