I just noticed another thread that took issue with Mods closing threads here, and otherwise keeping tabs on what goes on. In as much as I am a member of a number of discussion boards that pertain to subjects other than boating, I will offer my 59 cents (inflation) on the topic.

It is my opinion that the mods here do a good job. Iboats has made a policy decision to keep inappropriate language and political disussions at bay. Having seen what goes on in other forums that don't have such rules, I would offer the position that what is done here is wise. Frankly the forums that don't have much in the way of rules become very nasty "free-for-alls" very quickly. I have seen personal threats of physical violence and I have seen threats of lawsuits. Simply put, they break down into juvenile shouting matchs to a degree that is almost unbelievable.

I, for one, am just fine with what goes on here. Keep up the good job, mods!

It's definitely a power trip for them, but none of them abuse it. The mods on this forum are probably the coolest of all the forums I'm a member of, and that's about a dozen.

I like having a forum where the topics arent alowed to venture into arguements and subjects that set my blood boiling. Unlike other forums and there are plenty of them, when you come here you can relax and enjoy boat related topics and not end up mad.

Yada,yada,yada.
But I sometimes do miss slugging it out with 12footer and I did try to be more of a know it all than Murky.I used to feel real close to plywoody as it seemed that the 2 of us were the only lefties on this board(At least that is what we were called).
Oh, the romance of the bad old dockside chat.
Now I better shut up before this thread gets locked.

On a serious note, I don't miss the political or the religious arguments. They just seemed to go on forever. However, I do miss the longest thread in iboats history and some of the members that thought they needed to leave. :(

yes, it is a good outfit.
Mind you, I still miss Ray and his little red truck (especially that photo of his girl getting into the tray).

Re: Mods & Rules

Yep, I think the Mod Squad is a great bunch of guys and gals (even though I would be a MUCH higher rank if it hadn't been for all the deleted threads! HA! :D ). I miss the civil discussions on religion and politics, but I don't miss the name calling and downright mean-ness that would sometimes occur. And, unfortunately, because human nature tries to push the limit to the nth degree, there has to be a line drawn, especially since this is a for-profit site.

Remember, the reason for these forums is to get us here to go shopping and buy things from iboats! And we ain't gonna buy if we is all fussed up and angry. So, it is definitely what needed to be done on their part. Good job Administration and Mod Squad. Do miss many of the past posting members, though ... wish we could get them back somehow.

It's certainly tamer now and I think quite a bit more civil. Some of the previous debates were interesting and the odd one was actually informative.
Unfortunately quite a bit of it was a bunch of armchair rhetoric. I can get that kind of entertainment anywhere online where unrealized politicians anonymously hang out.
Definitely newer and improved!
