It's no wonder the presidents poll numbers are low when you ask abnormally large numbers of dems what they think. With these kind of tactics you could come up with poll numbers supporting child sex, as long as you ask enough *********s for their opinion.

http://www.mrc.org/cyberalerts/2005/cyb20051104.asp#1

Honesty doesn't seem to a trait of the liberal media.

Polls are not clinical trials....Figures don't lie, but...Liars do figure.....Polls are basically worthless unless they are properly conducted.....JK

Re: More poll number propaganda from the left

This is a silly argument. Of course the results of any poll will be determined by the accuracy of the mix of the respondents to the population as a whole.

Most reputable polling services somewhere publish the scientific basis for the chosen sample. The CBS poll is no exception) No sample will be perfect, which is why there is a margin of error, and why one poll will vary in result from another. So what? It does give, if accurately done, a general idea of what the prevailing attitude of the general public, for whatever that is worth.

It is admittedly by even the pollsters not a precise number (Margin of error). So what? It is instructive, even in a limited way. They are valuable, and accurate to a degree, which is why every political party conducts them.

Sure, you could only poll members of moveon.org, or only the Rush Limaugh fan club, and get vastly different results, but for what end? No serious polling company, or news organization, would align themselves with such a poll, despite the protests of those that don't like the results.

PW2
I tend to disagree. look at fox news, that channel is so rapidly party line they fall all over themselves looking stupid. luckily they are balanced by MSNBC which is so radically party lined they look equally stupid.

I was clled for a poll once, and I was totally turned off. The very evident slant of the questions forced a certain answer. I refused to answer about half becuase of this. I finally hung-up after telling the pollster I would no longer participate in the partisan fiasco. I tend to agree more with the democratic view point (even though I do NOT agree with the democratic attitude). But I was insulted by the way the poll painted me as a democrat, I am an independent thinking voter, and that terrifies most politicians. Not me, but independent thinking voters.
Polls can be skewed to produce desired results. But bush is doing a pathetic, dismal job.

Rod,

I am not completely sure of the respective "bias" of the various news channels, and while there are clearly various polling outlets that tend to push the "margin of error" from one edge to the other, Still the results generally are roughly comparable.

You might get one poll that suggests W's popularity is at 35%, and another that puts the number at 39%--Bottom line is that the number is a bit shaky if you were W, wherever the "real" number really is. How the various news outlets "interpret" the results is another story.

And Bondo is of course correct. There is only one poll that really counts.

I would like to see a poll conducted to get the approval rating of any political system that could come with John Kerry and George W Bush as the best of the possible choices to lead this country.
