He is 21 guys! He is an adult and is responsible for making his own choices!

considering the guilt by association statutes and the disrespect of indulging in your domicile you have every right to object. the legal issues are far more pressing than the consumption issue, imo.

What??? Where did you even begin to make that assumption??? Did I miss something? Did the neighbor smell it and start shooting up his house because of it?
Substance abuse is a very serious thing but the idea of a "gateway drug" is a self-fulfilling prophesy. One has to deal with the internal demons before they can deal with the effects of those demons.

Your response leads me to believe you missed a couple of somethings. Please carefully read Mark's initial post and pay particular attention to paragraph four. I'm not calling into question your opinion of drug policy, I'm merely asserting that this situation is much more serious than you appear to believe.

Sounds like the son in the bathroom and the guy shooting the shotgun outside are two unrelated things to me. Mark can tell us but I believe it is in the story is because it happened to bring the troopers to the front door.

Maybe, but how often does someone just randomly fire a shotgun into a suburban side yard then continue to do so while driving away? I could be wrong, and of course there's no way to know for sure one way or the other, but why would Mark mention it within this context if he weren't at least considering the same possibility I am?

An adult has his own place and pays his own way.
I agree that he shouldn't be doing it in the house if his parents don't allow it. I am responding to all the talk of dysfunction, leading to harder drugs...

Mark will hopefully explain. For now I think you are reading between the lines too much.

That's what I'm thinking. I agree, I hope your wrong.

Wonder how many drug addicts started out with "a little pot" here and there thinking "occasional use wont hurt me". I know not all, but I bet a bunch...

I know if it was my kid, either he would quit, or, he would be out the door... Then he can make all the choices he wants....

If the wife is outside with the others kids playing I do not think the 2 are related. I have to agree though, 21 - straight A's - no other trouble, your situation could be worse and lets hope it doesn't get any worse than just the weed. I do not agree with him doing it in your house though. I think a good sit down family talking with the 3 of you would be the best idea to get all the feelings and concerns out in the open. Good luck Mark.

Agree. I also think lncoop has made a leap on the shotgun thing. The only issue was the cops being around and pot smoke being vented all over the place.

I wonder how many drug addicts rode bicycles before they got hooked...I bet a bunch! I know that sounds a little ridiculous but the same can be said for a lot of things including alcohol abuse. People that abuse alcohol, drugs, smoking(yes cigarettes are a drug) are all addicts. Personally, I am addicted to golf right now and its killing my shoulder :)

Mark, you are the Man of the house. I wish you all the luck in the world coming to a conclusion with your wife. I don't have an answer, but I will share something.

I smoked that stuff when I was his age too. Had a baby and quit. 25 years later I went thru chemo and smoked the heck out of it....along with morphine. I am not addicted to either today, nor will I ever be. I've seen alcohol destroy lives more than any pot ever will. The legality issue of your situation appears to be the biggest problem. In my opinion, he would have already started using hard drugs by now. Let's hope this is as far as it goes.

Good Luck!

In most states, the possesion of a joint is a ticket. I am sure they were more concerned about the shotgun than the joint.

I've always wondered why some can drink without becoming an alcoholic and some can't. Same with drugs and anything else potentially addictive. There has to be some sort of predisposition.

Well hope this works out for you here is what I have been going through, my wifes daughter was in a bad spot in Florida so we got her here to Ohio. She has been living with use for 5 years, we required her to get some schooling so she did, med office cert. She has been unable to find a job, but she has her son so she has been very narrow on job serch. Our house where we sleep when working has been getting filthier by the month, and she does nothing to help with this. Wife and I have taken and clean the house for by staying there on off days to make sure it isn't a total sty. She owns a car but has had trouble with it and wouldn't get it fixed, but drives one of ours. I was getting tired of the whole deal, wife would say she has been tring. I said no she just lives there making it by on CS and food stamps. A month ago found a place hiring told her to go apply, she didn't even go. Wife figured out what I was saying was true. Now wife has given her an altamatam find a job or keep house spotless while looking. She had an interveiw yesterday after being told this Monday. find that funny how long it took. Oh I paid all the bills on this house she had really started running the utility bills up on it the last year.

It probably is something like that Coop.

I smoked the green back in the day, but drifted away from it after awhile. Wasnt really into it hard-core, and never felt a craving for it.

I drank and partied back in the day too, but also drifted away from it through the years. I was REALLY into that, but still found it less and less appealing as time went on.

Not everybody can simply give it up as a passing interest, and not everybody gets hooked and turns into an oxygen thief either. Its all in the thought process and adaptability to change.

Your 1st point did sound a little ridiculous. On your other points I completely agree, except for the golf thing. My shoulders already hurt from HS football without swinging any clubs..:)

We could make pages of things that can be addictive and discuss them to great lengths. I was merely commenting on the substance the OP mentioned.
