hi
i left my boat in the water all summer. its 270 miles from home, i havent been able to get back to it becasue i had open heart surgey this summer and my doctor said i couldnt travel. :(
anyway about 1 week ago they had about 10-12 of inches of rain in 24 hours
my buddy called me last week and told about the storm but he didnt say anything about my boat being sunk.
it was tied to the dock and the motor was underwater. the bow was still out.
anyway my a coulpe of my friends tried a sump pump but it didnt work fast enough so they jumped in the boat with 5 gallon buckets and started bailing as fast as they could and she came up.
they pulled my seats and took everthing out to dry. i owe these guys a lot.
when i got there there was about 2 inches of water in the bottom. i pumped that out.
i then trolled over to the landing with the trolling motor and pulled it out.
i pulled the plugs and cranked it over it shot water about 30 feet. i kept cranking until it was just a fine mist , i replaced the plugs, and sprayed fogging oil in the carbs.
and it started i let it run on the muffs for about 45 minutes.
then i pulled the plugs again and sprayed more fogging oil in the cylinders, and in the carbs,
i sprayed all the linkage with silcone spray.

Is there anything else i should have done?

i'm so happy it runs :p

sorry for the long post but i thought i would share my story.
So from now on my boat comes out when i leave.
no more leaving it unattended.
Don

So you sent your 12 inches of rain to me here in New England,AND now you want some help ? ?

Just a joke, but the rain here is getting obnoxious.

You definitely have some good buddies, and you know it !

I think what you've done is good for the motor, but if you can't get her to the water for a good wide open speed run,run her again,at a fast idle, and squirt oil into the carbs until the motor quits.I'd use 50:1 two stroke oil.Fog oil tries to cling to the bearings, rods, etc. The two stroke oil will (hopefully) lube everything.AND puddle down around the bottom crank bearing and seal, where the H2O has settled.

DHP

Thanks for the repies
LOL i see you guys have really been getting hit with the rain. its been real Dry in the northwoods
it raised the water level in the lake about 15 inches maybe more the reason i say that is because most of the docks were underwater.
Your right i do have some very good friends up North . they said they knew i wouldnt be able to get it out myself so they did it for me.
i'm going back in the middle of the week and run the heck out of the boat.

Sounds like a plan.Run it on double oil (25:1) if you can.My main idea is to get ALL the water out of the motor ASAP,and coat everything with extra oil that you can.

DHP

Several hours of hard running should do it.

Ya dipped it in the best water in the world, so ya should be fine for. Seeing as how your SR is Minocqa, and think the old beautiful Lake Minocqua. Ex inlaws lives right across from "Joes".. Joes still there? Remember the metal bucket drink they made, that if you finished, it was hung up on the ceiling, while you starred at from the floor just about passed out!! Darn near ran aground coming back one night This was the 70's. Still have friends all over up there. If it wasn't for that damn WINTER!

yeah that rain was bad...

I go a little further north than Minoqua....about 35 miles to Manitowish Waters. I went up there for walleye fishing the day after the rain. I launched in the same place I always do, but the water was so much higher on the lake that my front tires were in the water before i could get the trailer deep enough. where are you up there Minoqa?? I drive through there everytime I go up. My uncle is the cook at Stingrays Bar and Grill in Minoqua, if you have heard of it

Robby6950
i think the bar you are refering to as JOES is now the Thirsty Whale, i have only known it as the thirsty whale but they still have the buckets hanging around the bar. :) i have never drank one but i my cousins have. :)

Pony
that rain must have been really bad i guess the docks where underwater. they needed the rain up there but not that way. my frined said he has never seen it rain so hard in his life.
i have been to Stingrays its a fun bar.
we have had lunch there before.
we usually go to Lakeside Bar on Lake Tomahawk
it right on the channel. we have a place on Madeline lake.
Did you catch any walleye?

Machinist
thanks for the info i sprayed the heck out it with silcone
but i never pulled the fly wheel.
i better check that
thanks again
Don

Freshwater? You shouldn't have a problem after running it for 45 minutes. The only thing I'd check is carbs for more water and electrical connections to make sure they aren't holding water. Run it without the cowl a few hrs to make sure the water cooks out.
