motor runs, then no fuel flow?

I just got my 75hp inline 4 1984 back from the shop and she runs better than ever. BUT when the primer ball is squeezed a stream of fuel sprays out from the fuel plate cover. The piece is located on the powerhead and where the fuel hose gets connected to but it sprays out from the middle where it meets the fuel pump base. how do i restore pressure and stop the leak?? i get no fuel to bottom carb. so it cuts out after about 45seconds

Take it back to the shop and ask them the finish the job...

achris, I don't think i will ever take her back to the doc. I'd rather have a few michelob's and do it myself . At least i'l have a frankenmerc and know everything that i've done to it. can you believe they put a 3 cylinder stator on an inline 4 beware of the mechanic!! its probably a gasket replacement or something simple.

Ok.. that all said, let's get you all fixed up .

Square fuel pump or triangular?

Triangular pump has a cover. If it's the 'o' ring under the pump cover, it's easy... replace it and the plastic cover (they distort very easily and once they do that, just replace them).

If it's further down the pump we need to know which pump we're dealing with....

thanks achris that really worked!! there was no o ring so i replaced it and there we have it! btw, it was a triangle fuel pump. glad you could help

I see why you want to fire your mechanic.

Get a genuine Mercury maintenance manual for that thing and have at it. 2 cycles are tricky to design, but easy to fix.
