Hey guys i picked me up an old glasstream bass boat that is in restorable condition but it will definitely be needing a little tender loving care.

The transom is solid in the boat, the stringers are ruined and dilapidated however nothing that cannot be replaced with a little bit of time, money and patience. OH yeah and lots of sanding....

I know this boat is nasty looking right now and just to inform you it didn't recieve this shape from sitting in my yard. I got the boat from another individual and that is just part of the fun, to see the before and one day or one year (laughing) the after photos. I got the boat just the way it was, not on a boat trailer, i simply picked it up with my utility trailer.

So needless to say i would be able to purchase a used boat with a trailer and motor for the monies that i will be placing into this boat, but that is irrelevant, the main point is the enjoyment of the restoration.

Just a little bit of work, shoot!! a lot of work, but it'll be fun.

Any suggestions, advice or such are gladly welcomed.

That's funny, it's grass that actually volunteered amongst the pine straw that had settled in the bottom of the boat. Isn't that trashy sounding, i know it is. But like i said earlier it wasn't my doing. And yes to say that i have my hands full is an understatement i know for sure.

Wow, I can already envision about what I want it to look like, i am eventually going to have a custom paint job in place. And as I mentioned earlier, I know that i could find a usable nicer (of course) boat that would be fishable for a lot less monies than what will eventually be encapsulated in this boat, but I simply love projects and the challenges thereof. So i decided "why not" and picked this boat up. Gonna be a challenge, gonna have to buy an outboard, a trailer and all, but it'll be fun.

What else is a man gonna do?, you know - plus i'm a project man- this is right down my alley, having about 5-6 going on right now outside of this boat project.

Take care guys Chris

Chris I can appreciate your indulgence in over the top projects. I just picked up a 1974 Larson 1700 Shark friday night that is almost water ready although in need of a pretty thorough cosmetic restoration and a little mechanical work. I got it from the original owners son. I also have a 1963 Ford F100 unibody Pickup going under a full frame up resto. I also was given a 1989 Dodge D100 from the original owner ( swmbo ) calls it our Calico truck it has classic Chrysler rash and is currently 3 original colors White paint Gray primer and surface rust where the primer finally gave out. On top of all these I own and operate an HVAC company and build Recumbant bikes as a hobby. I dont think theres a problem with having plenty of projects :D. I wish you the best of luck with your restoration.

Rick, hey buddy I am project man to say the least. I appreciate and thoroughly enjoy a good project, therapeutic at times as long as uncle BOB (Big Orange Ball) another word for the sun, what we called it in the military, isn't beating down on you. I mean when it's hot out is the only time I don't always enjoy my projects.

You talking about the recumbent bikes, now they are cool, i have never ridden in one but have wandered what they ride like. Are they relaxing, more so than i typical bike i would assume?

Man they are neat looking? wow, i might have to pay you to custom build me one my man, yes sir ree.

I like em, take care

Finally got the two halves apart, boy you should have seen the trash in the bottom of this boat. Sickening.. almost needed to get my turn out gear on before i dug into this crap, nasty. pitiful that someone would let it get in this shape in the first place but it was not my doing.

Cleaned the hull out and will need to be replacing all of the stringers in the entire boat. Wowsers...

Wow that looks nicer (yes nicer) then many we have seen here and you are right into it ;) Keep track of it all in this thread and everyone will help out if/when you get stumped. :)

Rick you said "calls it our Calico truck it has classic Chrysler rash and is currently 3 original colors White paint Gray primer and surface rust where the primer finally gave out." Hmmm I thought that was a standard color combo in KY :p

Chris the recumbants are actually pretty comfy to ride and for us old farts easier on our backs plus the real benifit of them is you actually use your legg muscles to pedal rather than your weight . I can turn you onto a kewl forum for them if you have a welder and the desire to build one :D.

LOL Bob I grew up in Fla I am a transplant to Ky and I actually prefer a decent paint job on my vehicles :D. I do have a decent shop and can shoot paint so not a big deal since the truck was free :D.

looks like you got a good start, have you thought about motor yet?? as when you start working on the transom motor weight is going to be important

Escapade i have done a little research into my boat and the weights in which it will be able to handle. I think i will probably go with something like a 150 horse motor, i am slightly concerned as to the science behind the transom work and getting the stringers laid in right in regards to the bonding of the new glass wrap layins and the force displacement.

Curious at this point if i should utilize typical 1" pressure treated marine board or some type of laminated ply type material for the added rigidity and force displacement. NOt sure at this point about all the intricacies just yet.

Trying to do my research and get all of my facts and formulas in line before i actually start layin in the stringers and the transom, i want a good bond and i am not sure at this point if the boat hull form itself was polyester based resin or epoxy or some other complexity. Not sure, the boat hull is a glasstream and not sure of the year model at this time, if anyone can send a 'shout otu' about the manufacturer methods and specs of a glasstream hull?

Thanks, Chris
