Phil I couldn't count the +++++ of that boat.
I have watched people water ski behind them. 50hp

This pic isn't a MacGregor but a friend had another sail boat
that everyone "true sailers" poo poed.

After work during the week when we had about 4 hours before dark.
We would speed up wind several miles while cooking dinner
then relax and eat dinner while sailing down wind back to the marina.
Just can't beat that for relaxing on a summer evening.
Best of both worlds.
Dan who owned the boat took this picture of us while motoring
up wind. Not nearly as fast as yours. But faster than any other
sail boat at the marina! Up Wind! 8)

Re: My 40' Container has arrived from the USA

That is the main reason I went for one Link. I want to be able to enjoy the journey (under sail) and if I get bored or run out of wind, then not a problem, in with the motor and up on a plane and off. I also wanted to tow it behind a family sized vehicle as opposed to having to get a 4x4 with 3.5ton capacity to town any 26' power cruiser.

Well girls and boys, quarantine have gassed the boat with methyl bromide, and doing their 2nd (final hopefully) inspection today, so with a bit of luck the tilt-tray truck will be a-coming around the bend about next monday.
Wondering what sort of fun we can have with the radar??.
Cheers

Wow Phillip, live and in living color. That's a real beauty.

I can smell a whole lot of fun cruisin comin up. That did look like a bit of a tight squeeze.

Did they have to slide it out on blocks?

Re: My 40' Container has arrived from the USA

Apparantly so.
It had a total of 1" clearance, (half-inch per side) and they had to remove the goal posts and both axels (including wheels and guards) to get it in re the height.
MacGregor made then to fit containers, and ships them new around the world like this....very economical.

Re: My 40' Container has arrived from the USA

weather dosn't turn off down here.
We are sub-tropical (600Km south of Tropic of Capricorn....if that means anything to you.)
Winter is best, 20 C days clear blue skies, summer OK, but rather hot, 30C+++ with clear blue skies.

Your killing me here Phil.
Like Tommays I'm torn between sail and power for our next boat.
And the MacGregor is of course on the "Short" list.
Last September while staying at a AFB in DC they had a small
marina on the base. Maybe 70 boats and there were three
MacGregor's docked there.
Neat pic's Keep them comming :)

Re: My 40' Container has arrived from the USA

OK Link, tommays and any one else interested.

Below is a link that is supposed to get you the full video on the MacGregor 26X.

Remember, the 26X was made from 1995-2002/3 and the new version is the 26M from 2003 onward. Mine is a 26X.

It is a one hr video, so I downloaded mine to 'save' somehow (as previously the thing stopped half way). Now I can watch it anytime.
I did it in an off peak time.

Before you start, the 1st link is for the MacGregor Sailors web site, and it is really good. Join up, tell them where you are at, and ask questions. The Mods page is brilliant too.

300k Promo Video
http://www.wcti12.com/wcti12grfx/mac26xhb.wmv

If you have any trouble with these links let me know and I will try again.
If you take the time to watch it right thru, you will find this bloke Roger MacGregor is a very intelligant man and some of the changes he has made to trailers/their boarding ladders etc are quite well thought out.

I have a few other good sites too if you want them passed on, and I can recommend 2 above average dealers too.

Let me know how you go.

Cheers

Re: My 40' Container has arrived from the USA

Hey Phil
The first link I just book marked. Thanks.
The second I actually have the video.
Both worked great btw.

Have been following the Mac since 1990 when I was selling small power boats at the Seattle boat show and our local Mac dealer was set up right beside us. With the new 19ft Mac at
the time.

He was amazed to see me sell 3-5 boats a day when the
average sail boat buyers you work with for almost 3 years
before making a sale.

Was thinking about you today while shopping.
Even if not me, I still get excited about someone getting a
26ft Mac. :)

Two things came to mind.
If you don't already buy cruising magazine. Buy a copy.
It has great hints and kinks about sailing (mostly blue water)
And GREAT recipe's!

I read about this first in cruising magazine in the 80's.
A retired couple who had sailed all over the world retired here
in the states and decided to tour the US.

They sold their boat and bought a small 26ft full keel Sail boat.
On a trailer. They put RV jacks on the back of the trailer.
They always tried to plan the trips where they could put the boat in water. They used it like a RV. But when they could not,
they would pull into a camp ground and use the jacks to
level it.

It was a neat story.
In 1993 I was bringing a couple boats back from near Bend Oregon and camped in a KOA camp ground.
Woke up in the morning and a elderly couple were parked next to us.

They had read the same story (in the 80's) and were using their Mac in the same way as a RV! The only difference was that they used a quick disconnect system for the jacks on the trailer.

They were launching in both fresh and salt water.

Now? Where are you going to mount the rod holders? :)
