Thanks Bondo!. I look into swapping those out and see if that makes the difference.

I definitely have a lot to learn working with the edelbrock. One thing I'm uncertain of, how do I tune it not knowing air/fuel ratio?

This is a great guide. I will most likely need to do this same procedure, along with swapping from a 305 to a 350. I have a 93 Starcraft I purchased and winterized last fall. Started up fine, and no water in the pan. Ran it between 800 and 1000 on muffs, and changed the oil. Saturday I replaced the impeller, and plugs (all look good, but a bit oily (betting from fogging), now there is about 3/16" of water on the dipstick. At the marine shop right now. I should know by Saturday.

If you don't mind me asking, what did the project run you? I am thinking the same route you took, tools, new carb, intake, exhaust, etc.

Again, you should be proud, you did a nice job.

Got you. That's how we always dialed in our drag car as well. Thanks!

Thank you! It's been an adventure to say the least. I kind of want to do it again but my wife would kill me. Right now I'm into everything minus the boat for $4000. I'm sure I could have done it a lot cheaper but I replaced a lot while I was into it. Big things of course we're the re manufactured motor($2030) intake ($340) carb ($390) starter ($50) battery ($100). The odds and ends add up fast so definitely budget for that. The only tools I had to buy that were boat specific were the alignment tool for the engine which I ended up picking up in a package with some other tools like a bellows expander for $100 or less. Another thing is shop around. But in the end I found that my trusty eBay and Amazon had the best prices with the fastest shipping. Kind of sad that the speed shops online can't have the same turn around and aren't held to the high standards of eBay. Even Michigan motorz has an eBay shop with cheaper prices than their webpage. Good luck and let me know if you need any more info.

I bought a marine starter off ebay years ago for my BBC. It came in and it took me 3 months or so before I got around to using it, it was for a SBC. Since it took me so long to find out I still have it sitting on a shelf. need to check things out when I get them, had other similar issues happen as well

That's kind of interesting as this one is also listed for the BBC. I don't know my big blocks well enough to know the differences in the starters.

Ayuh,..... Basically, Chevy Starters, are like the bellhousin' bolt pattern,..... They're All the Same,...... with some variations,....

2.5l, to the monster BBCs,.... They come in 2 basic flavors,....

The straight across bolt pattern is for the 12" flywheel, on Any of our Chevy motors,....

The staggered bolt pattern starters fit the 14" flywheel, on Any of our Chevy motors,....

'n of course, diameter flywheel is determined by the available block drillin's for the Starter,.....

Ya gotta Love Chevy motors,.......... ;)

Maybe I'll take a pic of it and post, but the one I have has the staggered pattern but will not fit my BBC (don't have a SBC so just guessed it was)

It's been awhile since I've posted an update here. I've had my boat out just about every weekend since I got it running. Engine is definitely broke in. She runs amazing and every glitch I've come across I've quickly fixed. I want her to be seaworthy and reliable. The 350 performs amazing. Not sure how the 305 did, but I can top out at 55 mph on my gps and the acceleration is solid with my 5 blade prop. Very happy with everything with my boat and the work I've completed.

Whew I feel alot better now reading this post. I just purchased a 1998 2350 Bayliner Capri with a cracked 5.0 and now I feel alot more comfortable about doing the swap. The guy threw in a 1999 Vortec 350 block so I just need to transfer everything over and drop it in. I do have one question, did you swap the stock cam out of the 5.7 or keep it!? Thanks for all the info! Great looking motor! IMG_4386.JPG IMG_4389.JPG IMG_4385.JPG

I would probably suggest a new thread. However if your starting from a truck block, you will need to change core plugs to brass, head gaskets to stainless, and if you want, there are plenty of really good marine cams from Crane and Comp cams.

Sorry about the late response and hopefully you've already got your answer. My rebuilt 350 came with a new marine camshaft. Hope my build thread helps you out.
