Yesterday, I took my boat to have the gimbal housing and drive put on. After Brat was done, he started the boat and tested his work. I was please with the work that was done at Lanier Boat Sales, in Cumming,GA. After I got home about three hours later I was about to put the boat in the garage and wanted to give it a test for myself. The damn thing did turn over. I when first tried to start it, it started then when I when to give it gas it died on me. Please help I am about on my last with this boat, and trying to put in it the water this coming Friday. Sorry for to tell, it's a 1989 Glassport 165 runabout. Gen 1

After it died, did you try to restart it ??? No way to tell what could be wrong without some more information. Since you just had it in the shop, maybe you should head back there to have them take a look.

Re: My boat won't turn over.

They didn't really touch the engine. I did try to start it after it died. I am trying to see did I flood the Carb and didn't know it. To add to it i had black smoke coming out of the exhale yesterday also. I know that the drive is good, and i want the engine to be good too. Is there something that you would want me to check.

Could be that your engine is flooding real bad. Black smoke means way to much fuel much fuel . White smoke (not steam) means oil.

Sounds like the carbs flooding, possibly a choke or needle valve and seat leaking.

Don't need to know what the boat is, need to know what the engine is. (Make , model, year and serial number) Did you have sufficient water running to it when it was running (both you and the boat shop)? Did you have a look down the carb? Did you check for spark?

Most important.... What engine are we talking about?

Thanks yall, for the replies. Chris it is a 2.5L Mercuriser GMC. Both at the shop and at the house I had the ear muffs on. I haven't check the Carb yet, don't know what to look for, and it put new spark plugs in it.

photo.JPG Here is a pic of one of my spark plugs, all spark plugs look like this. These are new spark plugs. Please help. I took the fuel line off the Carb and gas is coming out so it's not the fuel pump.

Crank the engine over with the plugs out for about 10 to 15 seconds. Then you know the carb should be full of fuel.
Then take the flame arrestor off and open the choke and pump the throttle a couple of times and see if you get any gas squirting from the accelerator pump into the throttle bore. If nothing comes out, pull the filter out of the carb inlet and see if it's all plugged up.

Re: My boat won't turn over.

Your plugs are black, but dry. Just idling a carbed engine will cause the plugs to look like that.

Did you do the checks I suggested to find out where the problem is?

Re: My boat won't turn over.

Yes, I did and found out that it is the Carb. I don't know if I should rebuild it or just replace it with a new one. Sometimes I can crank right up and sometimes I have trouble cranking. I have noticed that now I have white smoke after playing around with the Carb. I took the boat out on the water yesterday and everything worked out but now have to find where on the transom is the water coming from.

Did you look at the inlet line filter? What did it look like?
