Thanks for the update. I am glad to hear they have diagnosed her. The best part about a kid is that they are young and their bodies make remarkable strides when healing. Sounds like she is getting top notch care. Hope she is well soon and on her way home. Take care of your family......it really is what it is all about.

Great to hear the doctors know exactly what it is and that your dear daughter is doing better.

Mark, I hope your baby girl heals up quick. It's horrible to see a little kid suffer. On the plus side of things, they usually heal up quicker at that age. Best wishes to you and your family.

Do you have good insurance?

Glad to hear she is getting better. Any word on how she caught the infection?

Re: My Daughter is very sick.

....From blood work and cat scans they figured out she has Osteomyelitis, which is an infection in the bone.....

Glad they identified it Mark. It is hard to see the little ones so afflicted but here is a quote from an internet site (Merck) that is heartening.

"Rarely, treatment is not successful....."

My now 97 y/o Daddy had Osteomyelitis in his knee when he was not much older than Amber. This would have been in the early '20's. They did not have a clue what to do although they were able to diagnose it. He spent a considerable time of his early youth in Childrens hospital. They ended up cutting out his knee joint and fusing his upper and lower leg together.

All the while I was growing up he walked on his tiptoe with a stiff right leg. It never slowed him down and there was not much he could not do. They told him (in the '70's) that if he had contracted the ailment today that he would still have functioning knee joint. They even considered going in and giving him a bionic knee.

As Osteomyelitis is usually an affliction of the very young or the old/older they decided against it out of fear that he could become re-infected. So he just soldiered on. Today he is pretty much confined to an electric cart or wheel chair but that has nothing to do with his past encounter.

Prayers will continue for Amber!

Re: My Daughter is very sick.

Sorry I have been out of the loop. Amber will be on my daily prayer list until you post pictures of her complete recovery.

I know what God can can do on a daily basis. At this time I am an official user of borrowed time with no medical explanation as to why I am getting better each day. May Amber join this crowd.

Keep us updated please.

Re: My Daughter is very sick.

Yesterday I brought my laptop to the hospital. They have free wi-fi in the whole building. Showed my wife this thread and she was really touched by all the people who are praying and showing support for Amber. We told Amber about it and she was amazed that I new so many people (!!??!!)

Amber is getting a little better ever day, the pain is slowly waining and she is happier. Her cousins came to visit and they played video games. It was good to see her laugh and do what kids do. All the talking and sitting up is good therapy for her too, because lying down for days causes her lungs to fill with mucus and she started caughing all the time. Last eveing, she was sitting in a wheel chair and was not caughing at all.

Her fever is still up and down like a roller coaster, and they have stepped up the administration of antibiotics.

Thanks so much, iboats folks are the best.
