Re: My Daughter is very sick.

I'm glad she's starting the recover. Hopefully, the process will go smoothly and as comfortable as possible. I know this issue will take time to resolve.
I check the post frequently for updates.
Were you able to determine a (specific) cause? ..just hoping it wasn't something in or around the house or where the kids frequent.

Re: My Daughter is very sick.

Boy, I'll tell ya that taking care of kids is not easy. I had to get Eric up this morning, washed, dressed, pack him a lunch, make breakfast and drive him to pre-school. Then take the dog out, clean up kitchen, put away his toy cars (they are everywhere), feed the dog, wash dishes, check the last few days mail for bills, and do a load of laundry. And this is just for Eric. Plus I have to log on to my office from home and try to get something done.

Now I realize what my wife goes through every day with both kids. Working single parents must have it rough.

My boss is great. He told me to just work from home and get done whatever I can. That the kids are more important than work. Can't ask for more than that.

Today I have to contact the insurance company and tell them about Amber. Hopefully the bill's won't start coming in until next month.

Wife called and said they started a second antibiotic. So she gets 1 every 4 hours, and the second every 6 hours, both through the IV. Guess they are stepping it up.

Something tells me I won't get a lot done at work today....

I just prayed that introducing a second antibiotic is a good thing.

Continuing to pray for Amber's speedy recovery.

More prayers for you and your wife as you work to keep the family functioning.

Wow . . I totally missed this thread ??? Sounds like she is improving and agree with others that she is a beautiful little girl you got there. I have done both played Mr. Mom (hard) and had a sick kid in the Hospital (harder) . . . Our stint was with the oldest when he was three and they think he had Transient Sinovitus which is an infection of the sinovial fluid which is basically the lubricating jelly in the hip joint . . . It was extremely painul for him and he would scream bloody murder just being moved from the bed to a gurney for transport to endless xrays . . . :( They had both legs in traction and of course IVs etc. etc. etc. Really sucked and thoughts of him never walking again were going through our heads. Then it simply went away . . . they told us they don't continue poking and prodding on little kids if they recover so we never actually knew . . . I guess I know a little bit about how you feel and it was/is really tough . . . Hang in there man!

Mark,

Beautiful little girl and handsome 'lil guy you have there! You and your wife should be proud.

This message is for Amber.
Amber, just so you know, there is a whole bunch of friends on iBoats forum that are thinking about you, praying for you, and anxious to hear your dad say you are 100% well.

This message is for Mom & Dad
It's tough to do just about anything when your children are sick.
I found it hard to concentrate on anything when one of mine was in the hospital!!! Hasn't gotten easier with grandchildren either.
Our thoughts are with you as well! Hang tuff!

I wish there was something more we could do then just send thoughts and prayers. But I also know the power of prayer! We're here for you and your family.

Mark I trust you received my PM. I tried to post earlier as my daughter is also very sick. They will not hospitalize her as she is not running a temp. In my post that never made it I mentioned that I have a daughter named Amber and delineated the similarity of the circumstances. In that case the outcome was positive and wanted to relate that to you. Since then my youngest, we call her Pip has taken ill and we ask for prayers as well.
Sorry for the hijack and amphibian quote, but I thought the sig would forward as well. God Bless.

Re: My Daughter is very sick.

I've been following this thread, but haven't come up with anything to say that will help. Having a sick kid is horrible.

I have confidence that the medical folks who are caring for her will get this under control and dealt with. I'll be thinking of you and your daughter. Thanks for keeping us up to date!

If it comes from the heart it always the right thing to say.

Mark, life is not fair but God is good. My Amber survived her ordeal with the help of caring people but it was brought on by perfunctory performance. God grant you the answer to your prayers. Always be faithful.

Re: My Daughter is very sick.

Amber is doing very well. This morning they installed a "pic" line (I think thats how its spelled) in her arm, and a tube goes up into her chest to a main vein. Then the antibiotic is administered through the connection on her arm. She was discharged this afternoon after blood tests showed two days of blood cultures with no sign of the bacteria that caused the infection left in her blood.

A few minutes ago very big box was delived of hardware and cold packs of antibiotics. A nurse should be here any minute to show us how to connect this hardware to the pic line and administer the antibiotics. There is a risk involved with a pic line, because if an infection starts at the insertion location (her arm) it has a direct line to her heart. So everything must be kept clean and dry.

Amber still can't walk on her foot, but she is getting around on crutches and her fever is only 99.

I hope by this weekend she will be able to walk so she can attend school. Maybe I'm asking for too much, seeing as her ancle is still swolen and still a little pink on the back of the heel.

We are so estatic that there were no real complications or setbacks during her treatment at the hospital. The staff was great and they know how to handle nervous and anxious sick kids.

Me and Eric made a nice poster - "welcome home amber" and hug a few balloons around the kitchen and familyroom. She came through the door all smiles to be home again.

Wife is soooooo happy to be home again. First thing she did was take a nice long shower.

Maybe we can all sleep through the night for a change.

Thanks for all your prayers and well thoughts. It sure looks to me like they all helped.
