There are several composites out there, but all are rather pricey.....stick with wood, it's been a stable of boat building for years for a good reason.

I recommend either Exterior Grade Plywood 3/4" or RickRyder likes Underlayment if you can find it. Both have waterproof glue. You can use it for the Transom and the Stringers. I'd use 1/2" or 5/8" for the deck.

Yes check with your local lumber yard they should have 1/2" to 3/4" underlayment ply.... the best part is there are no voids in the layers that can trap moisture and lead to soft spots..... then to what your dealing with now.... Best economical choice IMO

1. I personally wouldn't use pressure treated for anything....but some do here. If you need the 1-1/2" thickness I'd go with two layers of 3/4" plywood.

2. Angle grinder, sawzall, rotozip....I've used all of these to remove old stringers.

ok thanks i figured as much im trying to do this as cost effective but as safe as possible. which im finding out the two dont play well with each other when it comes to boats. and i would much rather sacrifice my money rather than saftey

Re: my first time replacing a transom were to start

slight problem the stringers are made of 2x's im 99% sure that trey are factory installed because the floor looks factory and matches the rest of the boat i have a call in to the manufacturer to comfirm this. i understand marine plywood is the building standard but at the same time the manufacturer used 2x's for a reason what should i replace them with

Re: my first time replacing a transom were to start

A lot of the boat builders use good ole Douglas Fir for their stringers. The resin in the wood is somewhat water resistant but as you can tell NOT totally. Laminating two pieces of 3/4" Marine Grade or Ext. Grade ply wood together and encasing it in resin and glass will yield a FAR superior product than what the factory did originally. Soo... to answer your question, I'd use the plywood and forget about the 2x material.;)

Here's How I recommend building stringers...
