Monday morning I was up early with the wife, she leaves for work at 5am. So I was doing emails and a little surfing and went to graigslist to look for a motor. While scrolling through the ads I came across a 1984 Lund S14 DLX with side console steering. Ad said needs work, Floor rotted, old trailer, no motor. $375.00

There was a picture and it didn't look to bad and I said to myself, No Way! Can't be! Too under priced. Call the number at 7am and at 7:30 I was there looking at this boat.

The thing was parked in back of a repair shop in a corner under a bunch of small trees. Both tires were flat, it was full of leaves ond other debris. Moss and small plants growing out of the carpet.

The guy stated that it's been sitting there for 6 years after he blew up the motor. Well either this guy didn't know what it's worth or he just wanted to dump it. I looked it over very closely then brought it home.

Yesterday I finally had some time so I tipped the whole thing up so the bow was pointed at the sky and I took a hose to it. After a couple hours I finally had clear water running out of the drain then filled'er up to the water line and checked the bottom. Completely dry! And yes, it did clean up nicely and the deck is solid though the carpet is stained but not rotted.

I think I stole it for the price. I'll try and post some pictures later but for now it's bedtime.

84 14' Lund; yeah, I think you got it good. You might have even been able to haggle with the price. The ad stated no trailer, but it has flat tires? I guess you just added air and they held up.
50 hp should do you well. Congrats.

$425.00! resale value around here is about twice that amount. I'll keep it.

2 motors, guess so. Though right now all local lakes here in SE Wisconsin and NE Illinois are closed or No Wake due to flooding so for now guess I'll push it with my 9.5hp Johnson till I can locate a nice 30/35hp.

I did something similar 2 years back and felt I got a great deal. You, on the other hand, STOLE that rig for the price. Well done! My 16' Lund is rated at 40hp max. so yours is likely 30 or 40, either of which will push you along just fine. Attached is a pic of mine after reconditioning.

Also very nice! The one I have is rated for a 35hp.

What did you do to recondition yours? Is the Lund on the side original? Is it a decal and if it is can it still be had through Lund?

I also had a very good idea of what it was worth when I seen the ad and had an even better idea after I'd seen it in person. Will say it didn't take long to decide to give the guy FULL asking price as there was another person there to look at it 5 min. after I arrived. He even offerd $450.00 but as I was there 1st.

Mine was in relatively good shape, kept under cover by a man who gave it to his grandson. I refinished the wood with teak oil, cleaned the carpeting. I paid $1500 for boat, motor, trailer. It came with a tiller 30 Johnson which I sold for $1300, and bought a newer (nearly unused) 96 Merc 40, elec start, power T&T for $1200. I built the console of mahogany, got a helm and steering kit, controls and cables all off ebay. This will be one I hand down to my sons (they'll fight over who gets it!). I did nothing to the outside. On advice of some here, even fooling with the aluminum finish on the bottom was not recommended because smoother does not equal faster. A little roughness creates bubbles next to the hull, and what isnt in water means less drag.
Have a ball with it.

Re: My latest deal

Thanks LORDY611,

Going to leave it pretty much as is except most likely will add seats and rewire it. Plan on having a great time in it as Lunds are supurb boats and hold their resale value. At least around here.
