So for maybe 1.5 months now I have been talking with a fella over in Vancouver, WA about buying his project boat. He had put it up on craigslist and I thought the price was a typo. It said it was 30' and was partially finished. So my first email said "Is this a typo?"

His answer "The only typo is that it comes with the trailer". haha.

I looked and looked but could not even find an old junker for $2,500. For the $2,500 I got the boat, trailer and $1,900 worth of windows that he had custom made for the boat. If I recall a couple of the windows are even sliders. They are seriously heavy duty, the right windows for the boat. Nothing hokey (sp?). The stainless hardware to mount them is included. Oh and she is a Coast Guard documented vessel.

She was built in 1975 in Vancouver, WA. The boat yard that built it went out of business and it was never finished. Someone bought it and kept it in a barn. I think it changed hands one time after that (I think) but she has never been left outside or had any water on it.

I left the coast guard document paper in my friends truck so I cant recall what the name of the boat yard was. I will have to do that in a day or two when I get the paperwork out of his truck

I wanted a boat that I could restore that was worthy of taking my wife and 2 teenage sons out camping. I was not thinking I would end up with a 30ft partially completed semi displacement hull (I think its semi displacement?). That fly bridge is going to go, its way to much I think. The fish locker (what is that actually supposed to be called?) is 10ft wide and about 5' x 5'. I wont be commercial fishing and I doubt the boat will see the salt water.

I am not going to start on the boat until I have some designs done and get drawings / plans on how exactly I want it to look like. Then from there I am hoping I can get a materials list and try to get a dollar amount thats it will take to get it to be what I want. Its going to be some drastic changes though, I Know that. I am in no hurry though and figure it will take a few years

I still have my first project (my 18' sunbird restore) to finish but this was just to good to be true, so I bought it and figure I will park it for a couple months while I finish the first boat project.

I still have to get it from Vancouver to here at home. I got about 2 weeks to get all my ducks in a row on my end for the transporting part but I started a thread a few days ago in the towing forum about moving it.

These pictures do not show the keel very well. I got a video that I will put up on youtube that does a better job showing the keel.

Some Videos... Please excuse the poor photography as I had not slept much and it was a cell phone :D

This is a short and bad video of my new project boat and trailer. 10ft wide and 30ft long. Made in 1975 and a documented vessel. She has never been in the water or left out in the rain

A very sloppy job with the resin on someones part. Good thing the pink is just primer.

A quick view of the port side on the new project boat. That sloppy glassing job needs some serious help

Starboard side of the new project boat and stern.

A quick video of the interior of the new project boat. Its going to get a serious remodel over the coming months

The back deck of the boat. The first image in the video is of the stern. I really dont know why there is such a big space there. The hole in the middle between the stern and cabin is where the gas tanks are. The one closest to the cabin is the fish hold. Thats going to be living space after the remodel

So this is me, the short fat guy in the fish hold on the project boat. I was a bit puzzled on how to get out after I got in. Not as skinny as I used to be and the ladder was outside of the boat.

It looks solid. It also looks like someone started but couldn't fish the work.

If you've got the windows and the hardware then you're well on your way.

It'll be cool to see her when she's done. Keep up the pics.

MT is for Montana boat guy? Just a guess :)

NE 57th Ave is where its sitting. Thankfully behind a chain link fence. I just read the thread last night about the fella getting his boat stolen out of his driveway and was happy knowing mine was locked in there.

Re: My new boat project, 30ft and pink. With pics

Does anyone have experience with buying pre made boat plans? Just googling I came across glenn-l.com and then from there have found out they seem to have a big following.

I think the downside in my case to buying boat plans is my hull is already built. The upside being its a great hull and I got a great deal. I want to use as much of the existing boat as possible just to save money. Like the windows, they are crazy expensive and I think I have 6 of them already.

I know that before I start building I want to have all of the plans / design done and on paper. Being inexperienced at boat building I would love it if I had plans and patterns premade and proven.

I have a friend that is very experienced and will help me out but I thought I would get my fellow iboaters opinions on design.

I am very partial to this style

https://www.boatdesigns.com/27-Nordcoaster-motoryacht/products/846/

I dont know how well it would work with my hull yet though. Because the boat was built for commercial fishing its really not setup for recreational use.

So what would you guys do if you were looking for a design with plans?
