Picked up a new 2012 Ford Fusion SEL V6 on Wednesday. While not technically my family's first new car, it kinda is MY first new car :D (We've had two other new ones but they were primarily my wife's vehicles). It is certainly the nicest car I've ever had. It's loaded with nearly every option except navigation, which I don't like to have built in anyway. It's black so I foresee a lot of washing and waxing in my future

I love this car. The 3.0 has tons of power and it rides and handles nicely. The Ford Synch system is nothing short of amazing. The things you can do with it with voice commands and how it controls my phone and ipod are so cool. I have never owned a Ford product before. We've historically had primarily GM products and also had a Camry and an Accord. GM isn't making any sedans that I was particularly interested in and I didn't feel the Camry or the Accord had enough of a quality advantage to justify the price premium.

The weather hasn't been cooperative for me to take any good pictures but these are identical to mine:

That's a beauty!...my sister-in-law bought a new Fusion last year and loves it!..I drove it the other day and it's impressive, smooth, quiet, lots of power. You gotta be proud of Ford and our domestic car makers for producing a lot of world-class vehicles! I like that black!:)

Nice looking car. I'm not a Ford person after the Explorer problems they've had in the past, but it looks great! I'm guessing the new stuff is far beyond those issues too. Congrats on the new ride.

Cool ride, ezmobee. :)

Grandson Scott (The Cheezecake Man) bought a Fusion recently and just loves it. He is a nut for practicality and reliability (and Fords). It is the only "American Brand" car in a family fleet of Subarus, a Honda and Toyotas.

I'm a huge fan of the current Ford lineup, congrats on your wise choice:D

The direct injection technology is probably the biggest advancement in 20 years, great for acceleration and fuel economy.

What's the tow rating?:p:)

Ford is making some nice cars these days and they are doing it the old fashioned way - no bail out money. Good looking Fusion!!

Re: My new ride

I am a GM man, tried and true, and I like the look of the Fusion. ( Love the new look of the Focus!) And their hybrid is supposed to be the real deal. My ONLY problem with the Fusion is that it's built in Mexico. I can not own a car built in Mexico, ever. (Canada is okay, plus they are still union made up there as they are here, but not in Mexico.)

But ez, the Malibu didn't interest you? I like the styling of that car more than the Fusion/Focus/Taurus!

Congrats EZ, your new Fusion is a sharp looking car!

I was a master tech at a Mazda dealership, so naturally I worked on the Mazda 6 (the platform the Fusion is built off of), and was always impressed with the handling, and room the G platform provided.

Nope. I don't think it's nearly as sharp a car. I'm not a fan of the interior or exterior. The design is 2 years older. My friend has one and it is a nice car but doesn't appeal to me. In the interest of replying to you, I looked up some pricing. I'd have to get an LTZ to be similarly equipped to what I bought and it looks like the Malibu would be $2k or so more expensive.

I think Chevy knocked it out of the park with the new Cruze. The Malibu is nice but aging. The Impala......ARE YOU FRIGGIN' KIDDING ME? Every time I see those on the lot, I'm like those can NOT be NEW cars. (this last sentence also extremely biased due to the our disaster of an '07 Impala that was pretty much a junker at 50k miles).

Re: My new ride

Nice ride EZ...is this replacing your pick-up?

We owned an '09 Malibu for a year and liked it a lot. It was light years better than the '99 Grand Prix it replaced. We really didn't look at anything else because we had $3500 GM Card earnings that we applied to it. It ended up being too small so we were able to trade it in a year later without getting totally hosed.

I had it in for service once and they gave me a brand new Impala for the day. "Are you kidding me, you actually sell these things?" I thought. Not impressed.

I love my Excursion and would definetly buy another Ford.

How's the wife feeling?

This is replacing the boring 4 cyl Accord. The tow vehicles remain the same.

My wife is doing well, thanks for asking.

That's a nice car. My MIL has one and loves it. I'd have one by now if I could fit 3 car seats in there. Somewhere else you posted about caring for it. For what it's worth Consumer Reports says good things about the Turtle Wax hard Carnuba wax. It's cheap works great, and it goes on/comes off easy. I used to detail cars and it's all I use now. The liquids work nice but you'll go through way more than what's needed.

Re: My new ride

ez, your tatses are different than mine. The exterior styling of the Malibu is way more modern and sharper than the Fusion. (even the Focus has a better shape) It's funny you like the Cruze, because it's front end styling is EXACTLY like the Malibu. In fact so is the Volt's, and will be every other new GM car.
Impalas are great car, sorry yours wasn't. The 5 that I drove since 2000 and put over 300k miles on were great cars. Amazingly fuel efficient too.

Mine was bought with 30k on it. Was probably a lease return, or worse, a rental. Now Buick Regals, those were my cars. Had a 91, 95, and 00.
