Well here is my prop after I tried pulling it off. In the process of pulling it I destroyed a puller, it was so stuck that it stripped out a hardened bolt and puller body. So as it really kind of made me angry, I just happen to have a brand new DeWalt 4" angle grinder and found that it works wonders.

That is why we need pull the prop off and grease the splines.
How is your prop shaft, still ok?
Now you have the task of deciding what prop to put back on, there are tons of choices.

My 22 Holiday with the 200 Johnson Has a 141/2 by 19 inch pitch. it is fast and will pull a skier right out of there skis if nor carefull . WOT is right at 4800 to 5000 rpm. I find these bigger Starcrafts do not rise much out of the water mine just takes off flat. Need to hook up my Trim Tabs to controll in rough water. Glad your progressing, good luck .

I have to have a sense of humor or I would be in deep trouble as I would start to throw things and hit things with a really really big hammer. I used to have a really bad temper when it came to things like this, not a lot of patience for things at one time. So now I have fun with it, even if it did cost me a 100 bucks or so. I live and learn is all that I can say

The prop shaft is ok except for one nick I put in it with a chisel, it is straightened out with the dremel tool and a cutting disk. I know it was a 19 pitch but not sure the size yet, but I do have a spare in the bow of the boat. Just have not looked at it yet as I am in no hurry at the moment.

I once did sort of the same thing with a Homelite weed eater when I was younger. Rebuilt the carb and it wouldn't run, needless to say it was smashed to pieces. With age comes patience. When things don't go right, then it is time to walk away and take a break. As stated by another member, this is a valuable lesson learned. That is why the prop is pulled and the splines are kept nicely greased. Keep picking away at it, and when all is said and done. You will have a rig that will be great without all the headaches of what you are dealing with now.

Oh believe me that I have taken a few breaks and walked away. In fact the wife came out once and said lets go for a ride as I was standing there with the sldge hammer in hand. No I did not use it, she saved it from a certain death and me more headaches. Yes I agree that the prop shaft needs to be greased on a regular basis, just wish that the PO had thought the same thing as the rest of us. But I am learning a lot that is for sure, especially on what not to do....

Those 19 inch props are very common. Seen lots for sale cheap. Good call to just cut the dang thing off. Use the spare and keep an eye open for a replacement. You should be able to find a mint one for twenty bucks or so. Keep at it and things will get sorted out. One step at a time and before you know it you will be on the water and enjoying your ride.

If the inner hub is readable it will tell you what the size of the prop is or WAS. good tomhear you are still normal .. Pugetsound

I will have to check the inner hub for any numbers. I know that there are some numbers on the outside of the prop and that it is a 19 pitch prop but not sure of the size though. And you should define normal, have been accused of being normal. Abby normal that is

moral of story: do not **** off man with angle grinder and cutting wheel! barely stopped friend from doing that to his race car Saturday....he was getting frustrated trying to pull the quick change rear end and was ready to cut frame tubes....

good job, and good approach. sometimes you just gotta decide which part you're going to save.

Apply the puller to the prop.
Get a hose and trickle water into the exhaust/hub area.
Get a torch and start to heat the hub.

The rubber hub will burn away letting the prop come loose for rehubbing. You still have to deal with the splined area of the hub.

The water in the exhaust area will save the prop shaft seals.

Wow it sure looks like who ever owned the boat prior to you thought maintainace was only for other people!!! I can't believe all the corrosion on everything. I quess that't what salt water will do.

Yea I don't think that much maintainace was done that is for sure. I was trying real hard not to destroy the prop but just had enough and frustration really set in. And grinder was really handy and started talking to me, "Kelly you really want to use me, I need to be used really bad". And being the kind of guy I am I just could not tell it no.

Just to let you guys know, I did use a propane torch to heat the hub to try and pull it off. It seemed like not matter how long I left it on the hub it would not soften up enough to release the prop. So I became MR. HAPPY with the grinder and a metal cutting wheel attached to it. It was a good learning experience and a spendy one as well. But I knew coming into this project that it was not going to be cheap, I was just trying to save a little here is all.

Kelly if you want to know what size of prop you have it is easy. Assemble the pieces and give it a measure. You know the pitch is 19 inches, just measure from the center of the prop shaft to the tip of the blade and multiply by 2. That will give you the diameter. Round up or down the measure to the closest half inch.
My guess is you will get something like this. 7 1/2 X 2 = 15

Keep plugging away, as it gets better.
