Yeah--that's what I thought about it not clamping on top. And I just realized that I threw out all my 5-gallon paint buckets when I was cleaning out the backyard.

Maybe I'll just peruse the buckets at Wally World and bracket a regular seat on.

It's a b**** getting old:

I remember the days when I could take a long car trip WITHOUT a jar of Pepto in the glove compartment.

Just purchased for 4 bucks at Walmart. Small Rubbermaid 3-gallon container:

I have some small scraps of plywood, and I'm going to cut and laminate two pieces to make a seat which I'll mount to the lid.

I know--ouch--but I'll sand, round corners, stain and varnish so it'll be safe. The thing is, a standard seat won't fit on here anyway.

It's pretty small--the dimensions in a photo are deceiving.

But I figure if the Doody Bags don't fit, I'll use a bag that does with some cat litter, and store the used bag in the bulkhead until I get home for disposal. I'm a real little guy, although not so thin any longer, so this might work for me but not for an average size person.

This is all very appropriate for the name of my boat—Piece of Ship.

Now I just have to decide if I want to hang a toilet paper holder on the side.

HAH!!!

Right, a man rowing a boat in the Everglades, with a picnic table canopy overhead, wearing a kilt, and sitting on a porto-jon wont raise any red flags :D

I don't think it'll raise any flags... you just won't last very long!!!...

The top arrived today, and man--this thing is HEAVY.

Haven't opened the box yet because my wife wants to kill me.

I like the fact that it's heavy. That usually means quality.

Hah!!!!!

I'll open her up today and see what's what. Hopefully, I'll be able to easily chop off unneeded steel from the two uprights. The top poles are all just shock-chord, like a tent, so there can't be much weight in THAT.

Maybe the fabric itself weighs a lot--total package weight is 28 lbs.

Re: My Redneck Bimini Top Just Ordered!

Just checked the pieces, and looks pretty easy.

Gonna take an angle grinder to the two base mounts, so no clamps. Drill 2 holes horizontally into vertical flange which hangs down.

Permanently mount two bolts each into front and rear bulkheads, bolt heads inside bulkhead, end of bolts protrude out.

Throw clamps on, wing nuts, full speed ahead. Will store mounts in bulkhead.

I could permanently install the base mounts, but they would get in the way when not needed.

Fabric and shock poles are real light.

Got her done awhile ago, but haven't posted it.

Here are the base clamps out of the box:

Took an angle grinder to remove clamp, then drilled two holes (holes not shown):

Two bolts, reinforced with wood epoxy:

Cut down the length of the vertical beams little by little. Here she is assembled, attached with wingnuts, and cut the height down a bit more after this shot was taken:

TOTAL protection from sun!
