My wife, my dog and rabbits...

It's that time of year again and it seems like there are rabbits everywhere. (I live in the country.) My just turned three year old German Shepard has discovered that not only are rabbits fun to chase, they are also quite tasty. So this morning the wife looks out the kitchen window and my dog is having himself a breakfast of fresh caught rabbit and she goes nuts asking me why I'm not out there stopping him?

Umm, because he is doing what dogs do and if I was faster of foot I'd join him.

Apparentlly that was the wrong answer. I had to fix my own breakfast... :D

Was it leftover rabbit?

Rabbits are very tasty, if you can get over the smell of cleaning them. Hahaha I bet you get the cold shoulder over that little incident for a while :p Good luck.

Too bad he would not share!! Instead of running, I find lead to be a much more effect way of putting rabbits on the table :D

The admiral here gets upset when my shepard/rot mix does likewise except he finds the nests so they're not ready for the table. When he first started, I was worried about diseases and stuff, my vet said not to worry.

Maybe if you spent more than $50. bucks on his vet a year he might share? :)

2010-11-12 11.14.38.jpgMy 2yr old lab suppliments his diet with occasional critters too. His last rabbit was domestic when he busted into my daughter's hutch and helped himself. He was stuck in the wired pen when we discovered his buffet. More recently he has grown a fondness of possum. I watch him hide under the hedge line at sunset when the possum wander out from the wetlands behind our home. When the possum gets close enough he jumps out and scares them. Some run back through the hedges. Some pass out from fear (playin possum) and he picks them up and heads for our deck to munch. Always worried about disease and possum bites, so we discourage him. Fun to watch him stalk and pounce though.

In my previous life I was a rabbit. I'd get up in the morning and make bunnies. Then eat and head to the golf course. Have lunch and make more bunnies. Back to the golf course. I'd come home in the evening and eat....then make more bunnies.

Life is good today. Not making any bunnies and not spending enough time on the golf course. But, I get by. I'd like to have a talk with your dog, Bubba. Not sure if I should thank him or not!

I'm with Sasto ! Except for the golf course. I spend my time at the camp rather than the golf course.

My German Shepard lost his taste for skunks, but I will let you know when he gets that damn raccoon that he has been after for a month. Rabbits just know better I guess than coming into his space. ;)
