Well I have this 1970 Johnson 115hp motor that I got for my ps3. I thought that was a steal even if it did not run came with boat controls also. So tonight I thought I got all the wires reconnected so I decided to check the compression. Here part of the news

158 158 162 158

I was estatic. So much that I went and borrowed another Compression check tool to verify mine was working correctly. No changes.

Bad news, No spark. And since I dont have a book for my motor I have no idea where to start. Ignition pack looks brand new. everything else no idea.

Im glad I dont have to rebuild the motor. I thought for sure a ring land or a rod would be broke.

Still have not tested water pump yet. Baby steps, they always say take baby steps.

Anyone got any ideas that I can check before I have to start buying parts?

you realize a factory workshop manual is really a wonderful thing..short of that all I can point you to is cdielectronics.com/troubleshooting, find your ignition system, and commence in

You dont have spark to any cylinder?

have you tried disconnecting the black/yellow wire at the pack and re testing? It is the kill wire.

I dont have any spark to any cylinder, and I can not find the black yellow wire anywhere. Where exactly should I be looking for it at.

I did, but again I do not have the manual for the motor so I am not sure where the items that are on that sheet are located at. I do appreciate the information, hopefully when I get the book all that will make much more sense.

And by the way I have looked at my motor three times and I can not find a black wire with yellow stripe anywhere. Is this wire coming from the boat controls. If so keep in mind that the motor is not connected to anything right now.

I thought you did not need the controls hooked up to test compression and spark

So then would I be correct that, the key needs to be in the on position. Or should I start it with the key instead of jumping it

This mtr has no black/yellow wire coming from the pack. It's battery cd. The key has to be on to feed B+ voltage to the power pack which makes the system fire.

Thanks Boobie Appreciate the reply. I was getting ready to take off the Flywheel so now I have to find a socket the right size to torque it down.

Also does anyone know what the right oil/fuel ratio is for a 1970 johnson 115hp
