Saw that too, GA. That is what team mates do, but a little blatant.

A lot blatant. To me the extended pit stops are one thing. The planned spin is another. No one says you have to finish a race, but causing a caution is a definite problem.

Okay, a lot blatant. And for the record, I would rather have Newman than Truex in the Chase. Not happy with the way the race was manipulated. Will see if NASCAR makes it right ...

Agree, I would like to see Ryan in there too.

But what can NASCAR really do? Penalize a team? They can't change the outcome, or, who makes the Chase.... And to penalize, they're going to have to have hard proof. Can't be a judgment call..... IDK, I think it might be tough.....

BTW, my comments are directed to the masses, not specifically you, Art.... :)

I am thinking multiple race teams will deal with this and that MWR won't fair well in the chase ... They will get bumped a lot!

I have to say, despite it being wrong, what MWR pulled off is amazing. They got lucky with the Caution outcome as the #39 could've easily still won. But orchestrating finishing behind Logano was genius.

No doubt and I'll be cheering any team that does it.......:target:

Re: NASCAR Richmond

QC, you are correct. It was a brilliantly calculated move in the middle of the race and showed a great grasp of the system and how it works. They pulled out all the stops and were at least temporarily rewarded. We will see if the damages were warranted after the remaining races ...

Re: NASCAR Richmond

Wow! Truex out, Newman in! Bowyer and Vickers both lose point, GM suspended indefinitely, crew chiefs on probation MWR gets $300,000 fine ... Pretty hard slap on the wrist!

but nothing for Gordon???

Re: NASCAR Richmond

Thanks MT! I never thought NASCAR would do it. This controversy will last a while. SOunds like MWR can appeal. I like the radio transcripts in the link... "Is your arm starting to hurt? I bet it's hot in there, itch it". Ooops, spin...... Wow......

Vickers was dumbfounded too:
Crew: "We're probably going to pit here on green."

Vickers: "Are you talking to me?

Crew: "Yeah, we're going to pit."

Vickers: "What? I've got to pit? ? I don't understand. Pit right now?"

Crew: "You've got to pit this time. We need that one point."

It's like video taping while committing a crime and getting caught.......

I'm still shocked NASCAR can do what they did......

Shock and semi-awed. nascar did half the right thing. Newman in - OK, Gordon not in  Both were in the Chase until all the manipulations began.

Re: NASCAR Richmond

To some extent the drivers are always manipulating races, but I don't know that with the transcripts and such, I have ever seen such a blatant situation as this one, I am glad to see NASCAR take some action, perhaps it will make these teams and drivers think before they play games in the future.

Re: NASCAR Richmond

Sure would have been nice if they had frozen the field at the moment of caution, and declared the race over.
