need a new rectifier as mine blown found plenty of square 3 post but mine is rectangular 3 post 2 yellow and 1 red wires serial #of motor is 2576257 68 1000 red band [100hp] thunderbolt ign

Mikey, The older rectifier were the red/brown large plastic ones. They wer replaced by the square three post ones. Thes should fit your application.

You can also get a 25A full wave bridge rectifier from Radio Shack for <$5. You will need to change out the ring terminals on your wiring harness for spade terminals. The fourth terminal (-DC) needs to be grounded to the motors block or cowling. The yellow stator wires go to the AC terminals, and the red wire goes to +DC terminal.

thanks chrisi only have 3 wires so if i use the square one how do you wire it as in aussie land we don,t have radio shak stores. mike

Red positive wire to the +(positive) post and one yellow wire to each of the two remaining posts.

Any electronics supply would have a 20 or 25 amp bridge rectifier. I'd get one with a 200v piv rating. Rad shack's is 50 volts min, but guaranteed it's surplus junk and is usually higher in fact.

Cost is about 3 bucks, one at a time.

They are quite a bit more reliable than the stock murkery rectifier. Much more meaty. The mercury rectifier is a t05 case press in unit, potted to prevent it from cooling properly and to make it look substantial.

well went and got a rectifier it,s 35 amps and has 4 spade terminals 1 has + and one has a small bent line like a s bend is that negative then has 2 terminals with nothing on them i asume these are -dc and +dc is this correct the rectifier is about 1 inch square does it matter witch way the earth and dc wires attach as long as the positive is right p.s. marine shop here wants $325.00 for rectifier and i thought you yanks were expensive

+ goes to the battery.
- goes to frame ground, and is probably directly opposite the plus terminal.

the horizontal s stands for AC. There are 2 of them, and they go to the stator, either wire at either terminal. Grey tach wire goes on the most conventient AC terminal.

If in doubt, check it out with an ohmmeter. It's a bridge rectifier with 4 diodes in it.

well boys fitted the rectifier i brought for $4.95 at electronic store and i am getting 13.5-13.9 volts at the battery from idle to full warm up revs which means it fixed i hope but weather is not good so can,t test her out always the way hey, thanks again for your help fellas if you were a bit closer i.d buy ya a beer or two. amazing the things you can get out of a computer,cheers mike
