here are some pics of my new engine that runs great from what i can tell at the moment. I am kind of worried about the cooling though. If someone could chime in and tell me if this is enough water it would be appreciated here are some pics. Also it leaks from a few places i have uploaded those as well. Also the left side is running alot hotter then the right, i can touch the left side but not the right..

UPDATE: I took the thermostat covers off the motor and the side that was hot was DISGUSTING. looks like its time for new thermos. what is the importance of these thermos? i always took them out of my sports cars, would this be ill advised?

looks like it has a good pee stream, you have 2 thermostats, on for each side. sound like one is stuck. go to Brp-johnson, literature, engine diagrams. that trailer need mote attention, is unsafe for road travel.

The stats are absolutely essential. They are there for a reason.

The water coming out of the front of the exhaust tower is normal.

Push the key in when starting and it will activate the choke. Depending on what year you have, will depend on the choke system. Older units have a solenoid that closes the choke butterflies in the carbs. Newer models have a choke pump that pressurizes fuel and injects it direct into the carb throats. If you are going to do your own maint on this engine, suggest you get an original service manual. Call Ken Cook Co. in Milwaukee for a copy of the original manual. When you are in the thermostat housings, make sure the pressure relief valves are not warped and are working properly.

Re: Need advice on 235 Johnson cooling, and shifting.

so could you run down installation for me real quick? i point the bend eye toward the drive shaft, send that sucker right back up and turn the prop to get it to slide in, it should be in reverse already if i didnt mess with anything when i pulled it out correct? where that shift screw used to be. where is it now? it looks like alot of stuff just dissapeared wehn i pulled the unit.

Re: Need advice on 235 Johnson cooling, and shifting.

yes eye forward you have touse a 1/4 inch socket andswivel tape swivel
so that it doesnt flop around then take some rtv and put on screw head
so that screw wont fall off let dri
once you have lower bolted back up you may need to move shift handle
to get the guide point thru hole in rod when it pops in tighten bolt and pull socket from bolt
it will only line up one way then put in neutral to see if you have neutral
after that fire up and check forword and rev add lower unit oil before fire up
run on muffs never dry

Re: Need advice on 235 Johnson cooling, and shifting.

sounds good, so the eye is fwd, not pointed towards the driveshaft. that means it is backward in the picture. i will do what you suggested with the screw. Have to find the sucker tomm as its dark now. i am looking at brp but cant find which screw that little one is. where could it have gone? what disapears from the upper when you drop the lower unit? when i look at where the screw used to be i dont see anything that it would even screw to, what am i missing here?
