If that little tab that the choke spring hooks onto doesn’t move back n forth something is wrong with the choke linkage; but make sure you have the choke spring hooked on that tab correctly. The spring is a bi metal spring that contracts (cold) to close choke and expands (opens choke) .

The spring is a bi metal spring that contracts (cold) to close choke and expands (opens choke). It has to be able to move. I haven't fiddled with one of these since the early 80s when we still had our 1970 Ford with the Autolite 2bbl carb, had a similar set up. So first make sure that the tab inside the choke housing (and the linkage) moves back and forth, then make sure you have the choke spring hooked onto it correctly.

Ok i must have it hooked on the spring wrong. The lever dose slide from where it sits naturally to the right. So I need to figure out how to get it on there so that the flap is closed and it comes open when it heats up. I'll look again. Thanks.
