I don't think it matters on the two large lugs. They become one when the solenoid engages. I'd wire it up which ever way is easiest to mount.

Doesn't matter, use either terminal, it's just a electro mechanical switch (solenoid)

man o man I'm going nuts. replaced the ignition brand new with key, replaced the solenoid, but still when I turn the key I get nothing I placed a tester on the purple wire and it lights placed the tester on the red/yellow turn the key and it lights jump the solenoid and the engine turns so I rule out the starter motor now if the problem is the safety switch should the engine turn but not start

Engine doesn't turn over if the neutral safety is tripped, not sure about a lanyard/kill switch. So you're getting 12v to a brand new solenoid, and jumping the large terminals turns the starter? That doesn't make sense to me, unless the new solenoid isn't working.

How do I wire ignition direct

I replaced the ignition. turn the key and nothing replaced the solenoid, tested the ignition and I have power on the purple wire and when I turn the key my tester lights up on the yellow/red wire I jumped the solenoid and my engine turns. I think it's the safety switch wire something must have happen when I replaced the rack and pinion tele flex cable but its a pain to remove the side panel how can I run a cable direct from the switch to the solenoid see picture of my ignition switch

Need to loose the test light and get a volt meter. Start with the battery and see what it measures. If its in the 12.2 and above range, then continue to the key then the solenoid.

I think its probably the neutral switch cable had to replace the rack and pinion Teleflex cable maybe that moved something behind the panels. is it possible to by pass the neutral switch and go directly to the solenoid here is what my switch loos like

Terminal I is Purple
Terminal S is Yel/Red
TerminalB is Red/Yel

The neutral safety is on the ground side of the slave solenoid and uses a Yel/Blk wire which goes to ground. If the switch does not make a connection then the engine does not crank

so basically your telling me not to remove any wire from the solenoid just add a ground cable to the yel/blk see picture and this should bypass the neutral safety switch and start the engine with my key

Yes, and keep in mind by doing this it will allow the engine to be started in gear. You could use the black wire in the pic with the terminal lug on it

I just had the EXACT same thing happen! After all the solenoid and stator and safety switch and ignition switch investigation I found improper connector(s) some genius 'boat mechanic' installed on the yellow/red wires going to the "NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH" in the "REMOTE CONTROL BOX." Over time the female spade connector which had been squeezed down on 'bare wire' to make the joint----imagine that------ had deteriorated. Now she starts like a kitten. Not bad for a 1996 75hp FORCE 2 stroke. And a neophyte wanna be real boat mechanic (just to save $$$$ and be able to do it right the 1st time) to figure this puzzle out....huh?

Now...on to figure out WHY my steering is so tough!???! Looks like the same dude that wired those yellow/red wires together threaded the steering cable through an opening too early to allow....."a gradual bend" in the steering cable. Gonna fix this too!!

Here we go again wont turn with key but will with jumping the solenoid. I have replaced the ignition/key, new solenoid, placed wired jumper from the solenoid to a ground (did worked a couple of time) so I finish rebuilding my gimbal. when I turn the key nothing jumped the solenoid and engine turned. so I said maybe its the batteries took both batteries to the auto part they are good and full charge. (now little history which I thing its the problem replaced the Teleflex rack and pinion maybe the steering cable did something to the safety wire) OK. my question is can I by pass the safety and put a wire direct from my ignition switch to the solenoid by the way the picture is a shot of the old solenoid new one is on now
