The 9r71r is a Johnson Seahorse long shaft.I just bought 4 outboards for a sweet price and hope to make a couple good ones from them. 2 are evinrude sportwins 9.5 hp, 1965 and 1967. the other 2 are johnsons, one is a 1971 and the other has the serial plate missing. any help identifying the last one would be great. is there a name for the johnsons? the model number from the one is 9r71r.
first i will check for compression and spark but i still need a gas tank for them. anybody got a spare they want to get rid of?
where could I get a parts list or engine breakdown?
I have a lot of experience with cars but not with small engines, anything important I should know?
I went one further for a spark checker, I took an aluminum bar, about 5" long, tapped in two rows of 4 plug holes, and attached a stud to one end for a cable with a large aligator clip on it. That way I can screw in all of the plugs at once, hooked to the ignition wires. I also use it when I check compression to prevent any electrical damage.
