Hello all,
Good to be back on the site and see some of the same folks from years back.
I need to pull the engine to repair the transom in an aluminum boat.
I tried the boatfix links and it just stays dark and search but many of the links are old.
Thanks for any assistance.

3 hp or 3l?
3 hp: 1. disconnect fuel line. 2. Unscrew transom clamps. 3. Pick up motor.

3l: not much worse
1. Remove outdrive
2. Disconnect wiring (alt, starter, harness)
3. Not sure if any 3l came with ps, but remove lines if so
4. Disconnect fuel line to filter/pump
5. Remove coolant hose from transom
6. Loosen/remove exhaust boot
7. Unscrew motor mounts or remove lag screws
8. Figure out how you're going to lift that sumnabitch. I have a gantry I made with a hoist. Also had a tow truck lift one out.

I'm sure I missed something, but seriously, you just disconnect everything and lift it out. Lift it slowly, since you'll probably miss a random wire or something, but no real gotchas

You can leave the harness on the engine, disconnect the cannon plug from the boat harness (i think on a 3.0 is in the rear on the stbd side) remove the 12v positive battery cable frorm the starter lug, remove the negative battery cable from the flywheel cover. PS hoses disconnect at the cylinder on transom housing, merc makes a fitting to connect the supply and return hoses .

Lifting you generally need to go higher than a typical engine hoist. Options are to build a gantry, chain fall from a tree, rent a tow behind picker, go to a place with a forklift, or a wrecker with a hoist

Drive MUST come off first.... No way around that. (Don't even try!)
Turn off battery/s at main battery switch
Disconnect..
main battery cable from starter motor
battery negative cable/s from engine block
Trim sender wire from engine harness
fuel line
throttle and shift cables
exhaust boot hose clamps
inlet water hose
power steering lines (if fitted)
instrument harness plug
rear engine mounting screws
front engine mounting screws

Lift engine

use the advice above if you want to remove the motor and then re-install. takes about an hour

if you are removing the motor to put in another boat. fire up the chain saw and cut the hull from around the motor. you will need two chains for the saw. takes about 10 minutes of cutting. from there, another 10 to cut the hull up in pieces to haul away.

I got it ready to pull Chris except the rear and front engine mounts. I have trailer it 5 miles to a metal fab shop so I want to wait until its there to get those. I then have to re install the motor. Install all new rubber in the outdrive gimble/transome plate and service the outdrive water pump since it has been sitting for 6 years. I saw you outdrive service video on you tube so thanks for that! The rubber will be a bit more challenging. I do have a manual for that.

Loosen the Bolts first to make sure you dont break one in the rear transom mounts or have a rotten front stringer where those lags go in.

if yiu are trying to go in and out in one day you want to be ahead of any issues

I got the feeling its gonna be much harder going in since you got to line up front mount studs, back mount stud and exhaust pipe. We will see.
Let it hang, start your rear mount bolts, put your alignment bar in via the gimbal bearing, adjust your font mount and then drop it down. The exhaust leave until after the mounts are down and aligned. If I recall the 3.0 has a intermediate down pipe with rubber connectors on each end so you have some wiggle, just drop down the upper connector so the elbow clears copmpletely before you drop the engine.

I tried to get the motor in and could not get the exhaust to line up. It kept coming out while managing the elevations for front and rear and left and right.

So it's in and mounted. What do I do with the exhaust? Is there a way besides taking off the manifold riser?

Thanks and Happy Father's day to all the Dads out there. Its been a greasy hot one for me. Love it! Thank You

Ayuh,..... Slide the boots up/ down, insert the pipe, 'n reposition the boots again,....

Btw, it looks like there's a hole in the top boot,......

Thanks Bondo. I see the hole now. Thats from using a backhoe bucket to lift. Its a 1971 international. Not very smooth any more for this type of lift.

I will try looking up the parts and replace upper and lower. Soap em up and give it a try.
