Dry pipes also get cited out here but at least they are gone in 30 seconds.
I never understand what makes people think other want to hear their music Noise. Loud radios cause a lot of fights at the boat ramps at the end of hot days. Have several competing boats with drunks on board then the fingers then it's on. I am confident their will soon be rules and regulations in this state of Furits and Nuts. Just too many fights and complaints and spoiled days on the water.

No one here has picked the obvious favorite for hi-quality LOUD musical reproduction. What your looking for is JL Audio. THE standard for cranking your boat to concert levels. I own 'em, I enjoy them and they CRANK! - Responsibly of course - :)

The MTX 7.7" rounds are nice also, and ~50-60$ on Ebay. I have a pair that I play at QUIET sound levels, then again I don't need to crank it to hear it above my 4 stroke Johnson. Sound carries ALONG way on water and on a quiet windless Saturday morning I can here several different garage radios on a populated lake I fish since the sound carries so easy.

Re: Need recomedation for loud marine speakers

Some folks have a need to get attention. IF heir boat doesn't get the job done, ten they need to play music at a "look how cool I am" volume near others. 90%+ of these types wouldn't play it that loud if they were out in the middle of the lake by themselves! It is purely for attention.

That said, for the 10% who like to go off with theri group and crank tunes, it is fun to do on a boat when swimming around, etc. Unfortunately, rarely are good boating spots yours to use yourself, so not very practical.

Wow. I am surprised by the number of obviously inconsiderate boaters that most of you members must live around. The places where we boat, everyone (for the most part) respects other peoples space. Very rarely will you have someone polluting someone elses listening environment. If you do, it's usually the knuckle-heads with the wake board towers blasting their tunes. If you have a wake board tower, you should have a switch to kill the tower speakers!

And before you ask, yes I have a nice system in our boat but I use it respectfully (usually when cruising). I'm running two 600W amps that power JBL & Infinity speakers and a sub. Other boating friends have similar systems used for the same thing, and no one to my knowledge has ever even had to be asked to lower their music. I think it all has to do with respect for other people, we still have that here in the Midwest.

OK - let the bashing begin.

i enjoy clean sounding music. i have alot of money invested in home system.people are into to different things. if someone wants to put money in the system on their boat, more power to you. anytime some asks about speakers or amps of boats, they tend to get a speech about how you are offending other boaters.

with that being said..

i Just would like to know some good 5.25 and woofers. i dont think i need marine grade. most of mine will be in a cabin. any ideas

thanks for sarcasm in advance.

I saw this post right when it was posted and it reminded me of a "can I tow a cruiser with my Taurus" post. Like everyone else I hate noise polution but have not yet encountered it on the boat on the northern MN lakes I usually boat. As to your question in my experience the speakers are important but the power feading them makes them loud. Get yourself a nice amplifier and I bet just about any decent speakers will due.

No way am I gonna cooperate with such an evil objective. It is bad enough (no, too bad) that we have to put up with blasting racket in our neighborhoods and on the roads without some thoughtless persons (I ain't calling any names here) intruding on one of our last refuges of peace and the gentle sounds of nature alone.

Agree 100% & not bothering to read the other replys

You have not lived (and died a slow painful death) until someone is idling down the lake, listening to the Best of ABBA and Barry Manilow cranked up to 140-dB. Worst hour I have ever spent in a boat...

Re: Need recomedation for loud marine speakers

I look at it this way.... this country was founded upon people fighting because their rights were infringed. People regardless of whether they want to play loud music or not on their boats have the right to do so.

In a world where popluation is increasing everyday we will eventually run out of space so you cannot simply solve the propblem by saying its not proper ettiquette. I can see how in the ocean where its spacious, maybe you can have a say on what you want to hear but when you are on a lake and there are hundreds or thousands of people trying to enjoy the same thing you are then they should be allowed to do so as well, if noise bothers your boating experience then maybe then maybe you should think about purchasing property on their own lake for their own private enjoyment, but since the lakes and ocean are public and are paid for by everyones tax dollars and boat registration fees, then you have to accept what the other tax paying citizens want as well.

From my experiences in life the only public place that you can go that doesnt allow noise is the library so if you dont like the sounds of people having fun and enjoying nature just like you, but in their own way go there on your boat, but until you boaters that like to discriminate on other boaters for relaxing in a different way get your own private lakes then you will just have to deal with the noise or wear ear plugs. We are surrounded by noise whether its from construction to living animals chirping, and buzzing. if its quiet you are in need of you should be napping on your bed or couch anyways. You should be on your boat to relax and enjoy the water instead of worrying about someone else's music because they arent playing Neil Diamond or Toby Keith.

And really I dont understand how boating with loud music is more of a problem than boating and drinking.... I can always turn my music down but you can never bring back a lost life.

To each their own..... I have enough of my own bussiness to worry about, then to worry about someone elses. we hire people for that they are called the police... Sounds more like boat envy to me than anything... "look at that boat playing that dumb music!!!" but in reality they are saying " Damn kids got a nicer boat than me." "what can i say about it to make it seem like its a piece of crap and help me feel better about my piece of crap?"

Wasn't going to enter this fray, but having read this part, I couldn't resist.

I think we need to make an award for the most ridiculous Straw Man argument used on this board and award it right now.

How the @#*&@ someone can think that people who don't like loud music are okay with boating and drinking is beyond me, but you at least have made todays price of admission here worth it.

Playing music isn't a problem. Playing it so loud that everyone within a mile (or 2) can hear it, that's a problem.

Sarcasm does nothing for a discussion, so you won't find any here.

If you want clean music inside your cabin stick with round automotive speakers. Infinity Kappa series are nice, but really anything over $70/speaker is top quality imo. Make sure you get a REAL amp, not a POS Walmart one which claims 1000watt. Get a nice Rockford 4-channel or you will be wasting your money getting loud crap rather than full range clarity. For such close quarters I also recommend a 7" sub, 8" in a pinch. Any bigger and you need to turn it down so much it won't fully activate and you'll just have a thud every now and again rather than full bass.

If you are looking for loud music outside your cabin, I hope your boat sinks. Your right to loud enjoyment does not supersede my right to peaceful enjoyment.

if you are looking for some good speakers, JBL, Kicker, JL audio, and Wet Sounds make great speakers. JL and Wet Sounds especially, offer very clean and crisp music in my opinion. Good luck.

Re: Need recomedation for loud marine speakers

My water noise/music is just the opposite.

I live in the boonies on the water, and I've NEVER heard any music from any boat, ever.

A couple of years ago we got a new neighbor. They have a stereo on their deck and play THE SAME CD EVERY DAY! It's some weird really odd oldies compilation thing, with "Mr. Sandman!", and lotsa barber shop quartet etc...

I really wanted them to just die for a couple of years.

Well, I guess they've won. Them songs are stuck in my head.

Actually, my company makes me work in the big city for a few days a week, and when I finally get to come home, and hear this same sh**, I now kinda like it, cuz it means, "I'm home!"

Just judging from boats I've seen while searching for a 'new' boat, however good your speakers are, make sure they're protected from the elements. Every used boat I looked at had trashed speakers.

Re: Need recomedation for loud marine speakers

Looks like we need a new iboats forum rule:

No asking for opinions on how to make the stereo in your boat loud!

But then we'd need another rule:

No asking for advice on installing a through hull exhaust.

And I bet you could go on and on making rules about things that bother someone.

If there's someone on your body of water making more noise than you like you should move yourself so it is less intrusive. If that doesn't work maybe you should call the police or ask the person making all the noise to keep it down a little.

Let's have a little more tact when expressing our opinions to new forum users.
Who needs more enemies?
