I have a chance to get a 1994 Mirada Explorer Pontoon boat with a 115 merc. It is somewhat of a project and needs some work which is not a worry to me. It is not a local boat so I am only going on pictures. the seller said it is more of a tri hull style fiberglass pontoon setup. He has never had it in the water, he bought it to fix it up but hasn't had time to do the work. The engine runs fine with the ears on. Iknow nothing about these boats. Can anyone fill me in on them. Is it worth looking at.

He hit all the key words, engine runs fine with ears, fiberglass, never had it in the water, all these are code for start running now.

I don't know anything about this boat but my gut tells me he got it to fix up, found more than he could handle and now he wants to dump it, probably needs a transom and stringers which require that you split the hull top/bottom.

Never heard the name but there are so many regional builders it is hard to say, someone else may have some insight, if it isn't too far away and you know exactly what to look for may look at it but like I said, my gut tells me he is trying to take out the trash.

Make him meet you at the lake with it you can call your local DNR and tell them you would like to perform a test run on a boat that is not currently registered and they will allow it as long as its not an all day event, Thats what i done two out of six boats i was going to buy wouldn't even float but ran like a sewing machine saved me head ache, money and trouble of fixing problems.

I done this technique for about 4 months while I was shopping for the one boat I wanted offer to pay for gas in the boat make it a no excuses type deal. After i done this time and time again I spent $50 in gas test driving boats but ended up with a 20 foot pontoon with a 115 mercury/ live well/ brand new binimi top with trailer for $2000 and no headaches

Good luck
