I have a 1969 Mercury Thunderbolt 800. Serial Number: 2668954. I have gone to oldmercs.com and to mercruiserparts.com but have run into a few snags. I have no fuel getting to my spark plugs and think this has to do with the carbs. They have fuel and there is fuel in the fuel filter. I think that the carbs are not passing the fuel on. The distributer needs replaced but I do not know how to remove the rotor. Is there a special tool that I need? I have the service manual but it is not all the detailed. So here what is going on.
1. Engine turns over but will not start.
2. Fuel gets to Carbs and drips out.
3. No fuel to spark plugs.
4. Spark Plug cables are shot. Need replaced.
5. Distributer Cap is in ok shape but not great.
6. Rotor in distributer needs replaced.
7. Fuel pumps need replaced but they are not available anymore
(mercruiserparts.com)
8. Fuel lines need replaced and so does most of the wiring in the engine
compartment due to wireing insulation cracking and swelling.
If anyone knows where I can get these or know what the part numbers are for these please let me know. Someone on here once told me that he knew where I could get new fuel pumps and that I should just throw the ones I have away. I think it was REDFURY but not sure. The guy lives down by Olympia WA. Thanks to all who reply to this and offer suggestions and help.
