Very resourceful using the aluminum sign, good idea. The transom looks like it is going to be very solid, probably more so than from the factory.

I wish my garage got as warm as yours, I need to work on that.

Good work Pauly:)

Re: Need Some Help On My 1960 or 1970 Something SS Resto!!!

I had an issue with the with my primer not adhering to the Gluvit, as I was impatient in letting it cure. I waited 72 hours, should have let it cure another day. Due to the temperature fluctuating from 75 degrees and then to 40 degrees at night in the garage, I fabricated on one side(bay) a tent set up witch should have been done about 2 weeks ago. Again..just me in a hurry to get things done. So, after enclosing this area in I am able to keep the temp at 70 degrees while only leaving the heater on for 10 mins at a time. I will also mention I was paying $20 every 3 days for kerosene. ($120.00 to date) I would say i can go 8-10 days now that is enclosed. I also have an electric heater under the hull that keeps the heat in.

I do have to mention my wife Karrine here. I should have done this a long time ago. Without her patience and understanding (and giving up the use of HER side of the garage. I use that for the wood carving station/epoxy... I would be staring at an empty hull untill April or May. She often looks over my shoulder at the great restorations all of you are involved in and comments about the passion and dedication that it takes not only to complete them, but to share information (good and bad) after the project is complete.(are they really ever complete?) So a HUGE Thanks to her...(and the use of the blue chairs.

Looking great Pauly. I need to order my epoxy. Based on your experience how much do you think I should order? I will need enough to do 2 coats on all sides of the deck boards + my transom + adding a layer of glass to the completed and installed deck.

I'm really at the $$$$ part right now. Before I can really do anything else with the deck I need to order my fuel tank. Since the tank I've chosen will stick up above the deck a bit I need to get it ordered so I can determine how much of the deck I'll need to cut.

Re: Need Some Help On My 1960 or 1970 Something SS Resto!!!

Thanks EZ,

To date I have used 2 gallons ( 2- 1/2 gal epox. 2- 1/2 gal hardener) The epoxy I am using is a 1:1 mix.
I have 2 coats on the transom, plus filling in the holes. 2 coats all deck wood including 4 coats on edges. I did the edges every time I put a layer down, top and bottom. I will need another gallon for the top deck after install, I want a layer of cloth on top. so..3 gallons total. I was not shy using the epoxy either. Was my first attempt at epoxy..I have seen here some say light coats..some say heavy... The epoxy formula I used was formulated for use in decking to seep very well into plywood and it also has some flexibility to it.

Epoxy Plus from Clark Craft. It was 55.00 per gallon which I thought was a great price for a specific formulated material. Do a search on the company.

Hope that helps and it may save ya a bit of jing..

Thanks so much for the info! Great price and I like that it's pretty much specifically made for what we're doing with it.

EZ,
What type of fuel tank are you using? The 18 gallon poly tank from the donor boat wont fit flush to the hull or floor. I really want it up front perhaps beneath the anchor locker. It still would be raised . I really dont have a plan set..when she flips then I will spend the time on that. Hey whats your opinion about a poly fuel tank? vs Aluminum($$)...

Applying Gluvit to Aluminum sheet. Transom Aluminum was coated with Gluvit as well. Let it get tacky and clamped her tight

You are making some great progress, trying to get ahead of the game before you go back to work, makes sense to me, keep at it.

Paint looks great! I do, however think it would look even better if you continued the black up to the tip of the bow ignoring that front seam there. I think it would enhance the appearance of your stripe even more. Nice work!
