Yeah Pauly. Unless you're gonna park that thing outside and just let it bake forever, you should be just fine.

Probably no worse that the vinly seat cushions or the mahogany:D

Chad How the hell you getting that in the water? No ice down 395 way?

I finally finished my bow deck. Nothing fancy but it will provide a place for some storage undermeath and a platform for my grill pedestal. I will have some pics later today. Working on the gunwales and trim as well as the CC.

I do have to paint the floor and throw playsand down. I just know it will end up trashed by the time I have everything installed, will just have to add another coat in the end.
Looking forward to seeing your progress. How long have you been chasin stripers? This will be my 1st time in the river..could use some pointers.

Re: Need Some Help On My 1960 or 1970 Something SS Resto!!!

Greetings,

I am thinking I will have to go to Montville to float the boat, around sub base area. The water is pretty salty down there, i dont think it ever freezes. im just gonna have my wife back the boat in with me in it, see where it leaks (i know the leak is large) probably a through the hull plastic fitting, pull out, power wash and get it into garage.

I am 26 and have been chasing stripers since about 8. I have actually had a flat back canoe up until last year with a honda 2hp, i got the cc last year. I am very successful fishing stripers in the thames river. I had a 100 fish day last spring in 8 hours. I will def put you on the fish, no doubt about it. Just wait until April when the 50 inch stripers are in the Norwich Thames harbor, its a blast.

I have the whole day to work on mine today, should be able to get alot done. Lots of pics later.

What kind of motor do you have for your rig??

Chad,
I have a 70 hp Merc. Prob a 6 hp kicker.

I typically take the Sunbeam VI out of Niantic. Its the 6 man vessel not the party boat. We do 4 trips a year..but it cost and arm and a leg.

Been trolling for trout and kokanee salmon at West Hill in barkhamsted.. and twin lakes in Salisbury Ct. Chasin Stripers is going to be a blast.

I grew up in Misquamicut RI, family had a cottage there..so Crabbin Clammin, Fluke Blues is in my blood. My daughters are excited to get down to Watch Hill and cruise the shoreline too!

You chased stripers in a canoe??

And finally...some sort of work up front...Grill Table/ cushioned seat w/ foam backrest. This boat is so filthy I cant wait to sand her down and vacuum..then lay down Vinyl.. I have another layer of carpet to install on the sides. It makes a HUGE difference with 2 layers of carpet as far as sound proofing goes.... The Teak boards I will bolt on to the gunwales and my downriggers will attach to the Teak.

Awesome thread, just read the whole thing. Looking for ideas for my new project, 1969 18' Mirrocraft with 1973 Evinrude 65 and 95 Caukins trailer ($750). Hope to get it done and ready for the King Salmon runs this summer on the Puget Sound near Tacoma, WA.

Pauly, you've done a great job and the results are looking awesome.

Hey man how is it going. I have been working on my project alot, prepping the inside of hull for gluvit and patches really took alot of time. I am to the point that i need to flip my boat over for paint, could you tell me how you flipped yours. I am a little nervous to flip with it gutted, seems like the sides could twist or something. I know my boat is a foot or two longer than yours but i dont think it will matter.

Im thinking that its a get a bunch of guys and role it over in grass really gentle type thing.

Hey Chad..
My wife helped me flip her in the garage. I pushed it up to rest on the gunwales..I had a few blankets down so it didn;t scratch..she held the boat while I lifted each end and slid a dolly under bow and stern. We then gently rolled the dollies and lowered the boat onto another set of dollies. It worked pretty darn good. Others have flipped in the snow/ on the grass..If you can get several guys you should have no issues. Scroll back in my thread..you'll see my wife strong arming the boat..

Make sure ya take pics!!! Hows the leak?

Thanks Driverseat Hope you saw something you could apply to your restore.

I like your rig alot. 18' is a nice size. We have a small lake close by that stocks Kokanee. They get to about 19"- 20". But its the 14-16's that are tasty!!! had limited success with leadcore...now I will have downriggers/fishfinder so perhaps I can get me a stockpile going!
