Hello all!! I'm new to this site and working on boats altogether.I/m hoping that I can ask some question without sounding retarded. I have a 1976 Merc C1500LPTT motor on the back of a 1976 Check Mate boat. I was told that when I got the boat that the motor needed a water pump. I have located the water pump and replaced the lower part of a the motor with another one that I recv. when I got the boat. My question is no matter what position I have the throttle in and or forward / reverse the propeller does spin. I thought that I had remembered seeing trucks pulling boat down the roan and the propeller spinning freely .Im not sure if this is supposed to be this way or not. When you try and turn it one way it sounds like it just clicks and the other way it turns the motor over. I dont know if this is right but it seems to make no difference where or how the forward or reverse it seems to be the same on the motor prop. any ideas. or any info. Im lost and need help. I do not have a battery for this yet and will be getting one soon. thanks all in advance!!
