With the huge number of folks replacing voltage regulators in these forums it seems the manufacturers haven't successfully designed theirs for longevity. Knowing how a typical regulator works, (shunt type), it would seem that one could build one with a typical voltage regulator and use some heavy duty MOSFETs to control the large amounts of current. And they could be an after market replacement that would work on basically any marine engine. Seems the auto manufacturers have successfully done so... :decision:
