Hey that 16'er would be perfect with a 70HP Johnnyrude on it. You have some serious work ahead of you and hopefully she wasn't tortured in salt. Haven't seen anything on your boat yet that would concern me or that hasn't been repaired here.

Left coast huh? Welcome to my world... :heh:

Re: new beat up 16' ss

look at that bend!!! this should be fun!!!! even with that little trolling motor, i still get transom flex!!!!

Splashwell cracks

more cracks!!

And even though you guys recommended i get a bigger motor, i feel i can upgrade later on.. outboard prices in california are STUPID crazy!!!! so i bought a scrap boat for 100$ and took the surprisingly well running 55hp and controls so i figure it should be ok for now.

Re: new beat up 16' ss

It's obvious why the knee braces are cracked after seeing the splashwell and transom. Somebody ran her into the ground, but the good news is all of that is fixable. The motor will be fine to get her on the water after you get her all fixed up.

Yep a $100 RUNNING 55hp is outstanding. And if it puts you on the water sooner AND cheaper, all the better.

Where do you live again? If the OB goes missing, me & the sargent know nuthin' & saw nuthin'

Splashwell cracks & a bent transom, bummer, but it can all be fixed........

Re: new beat up 16' ss

Hahah im out down in southern california near la. Great weather but horrible cost of living >_> i think my neighbors are starting to hate me with all these projects over the last couple of years xD wish i had car access to my backyard or a useable garage >_> the outboards just sittin in my driveway next to the boat  speaking of the outboard.... whats up with these?????

Those were used to mount the outboard on the old boat but ive never seen an outboard with the kind of mounting system before.... is it like an option or is it specific to certain outboards? Oh ya... and im hoping to be the youngest guy to restore a starcraft on iboat but thats just for fun

I haven't seen a transom and splash well that bad since my Yellow 79 18 SS, it's not a hard fix just time consuming, any ??'s just ask away.

Yes those ^^^ are for some Johnson & Evinrude motors. Not sure when they quit using them, but I think it allowed you to mount the bracket to the transom securely and then you could remove the motor & relocate it correctly on the transom when you put the motor back on.

You can see them in the bottom right of this parts pix:

And here's a set on evil-bay

Thats the great thing about rebuilding it, it is your boat and you can do whatever you want with it.

Re: new beat up 16' ss

Not a ton of room in a 16ft'r, across the beam. Might consider a single, smallish side console. Then all the room would be on the other side. With a 6ft+/- beam, 2 6" wide gunwales, and an 18" center console (which is fairly narrow) that leaves a total of 3.5ft, @21" per side. Not real wide.

W/ a 28" wide single side console @starboard side, which is fairly wide, there'd be 32" between the console & the port gunwale.

An 18" center console wouldn't allow for much storage below a bow side seat in front of the console, for a live well, cooler or fuel/battery compartment.

Re: new beat up 16' ss

See!!! This is why this is so great! Id have just got the center console idea, ran with it, and probably hated it after i was done xD i think if im going side console, ill just go original looking then. If i only have a console with a windshield on my side, dont know how many passengers id get aboard xD

@Sig: I've always loved doing things myself. Every thinks im a little crazy when i drag whatever it is home(maybe i am just a lil), but theres great satisfaction knowing youve done almost everything yourself!!! By the way....... CONGRATS ON THE SPLASH!!!!!!!!

Re: new beat up 16' ss

I understand i am the same way dragging in all kinds of junk rebuilding it and running with it. I would go original console design as well using an existing windshield is a ton easier than fabbing a new windshield

Left coast eh?

Well since you are spending hard earned cheddar on living out there you've scored yourself a great hull to keep things reasonable $$$ for boating fun.

Welcome to the Starcraft brohood:thumb:

Ok... so.... its been really hot.. like 100+/- so i havent been able to do too much because the thought of getting burned is not appealing. Bahahah but.... there is new news..... i was bumming around CL for outboards in hope of finding either a temp summer boat or a cheap scrap with good engines.. well... i got one.... and theres micxed emotions. The 74 is gunna get restored anyways for fun. And i found a "scrap boat" their term not mine with a 1981 80 hp and an 81 4.5 kicker that were recently sevice for 400 bucks with the motors trailer and SCRAP boat. Drove 2 hours away to learn that this "Scrap boat" is a pretty decent 81 starcraft ss >_> hahahahaha so my cheap summer boat is another starcraft. Of the irony xD
