Ya I'm thinking this boat is also quite flimsy so I dont think putting the cap on will be much of an issue. Looking forward to getting the cap off tonight

20200616_191557[1].jpg Well was able to make more progress then i thought i would be able to tonight had my girlfriend help me get the cap off and set aside. Finished removing all the steering controls and odd's and ends off the side of the hull. Gave her a good sweep as there was a few bees nests hiding in the nooks and crannies. Does anyone know if the front of the boat that portion would be filled with foam it sounds hollow.

Made some more progress tonight. Actually feel like i am doing something productive with my time lol. Lots more to go but so far i have enjoyed my time i find this rather relaxing. Both transom and floor were completely rotten. Stringers are also rotten but they could be my saving grace if i can get them out in 1 piece then i will have templates. Cut a hole in that front part to make sure the wood did not continue and only thing back there was soggy cardboard. Wondering if i should leave that as is or do i just continue to cut it all out, to me its a structural part of the boat and if i do leave it how does 1 go about re fiber glassing that in or making some sort of a template . Any ways hears some more pics of my time in the garage tonight. Any feed back is appreciated. Thanks in advance

To cut or not to cut

I had cut the front of this out to see if the middle stringer ran the entire length which it does not. Its hollow and no wood inside. Do i continue to cut this out and remake it or leave it and fix what ive cut out and if so how does one go about fixing this. Thanks for the help in advance

Well it's been a while since I posted because of the winters and colder weather I could not do much. But I'm back at it again and found a few trouble spots that will need to be repaired. Have a little more grinding and sanding to do and getting close to cutting out my transom. Question I have is how much glass is to much glass to remove, I question this as I don't want to take down to much by the stringer channels that the stringers sit in. I will post some more pictures tonight. Headed full force this summer and due to weather I am able to start much earlier.

I ground the tabbing that makes the "channels" all the way down flush with the hull. I laid new tabbing with the new stringers. Try not to grind through the hull, but even that's repairable.

Some boat like this example are much easier to repair that boats built in the 1990's.----Just my opinion.

I Cant grind them down flush with the hull as they are actual channels where the keels are under the boat. Just not sure do i need to take the glass alll the way down to the transparent looking colour or just rough the old glass up

Yep, my stringers lined up with my strakes as well...you can still grind it all the way down. Here's a picture from when I was rinsing out the inside after grinding. You can see where the strakes are - this is where the stringers were.

This is what I have right now. Also wondering along the sides of the channel it looks like rotting wood is that just discolored fiberglass from the rotting wood ?
