I can`t beleive I did this! :^ If I get bit, I sure asked for it.

I found a repo 1996 295 Stratos, this was one of those deals I really couldn`t pass up. I hope it doesn`t bite me in the butt. I usually don`t do things like this, Beleive it or not, I don`t even know what HP it is. I`ve never seen an engine that did not have the HP all over it. It`s some kind of special edition and has gold lettering. It`s a three liter carbed Johnson. Boats in good shape, carpet and seats are in good shape. No batteries. I took a compression test and it``s even at 100#`s. Hour meter shows 30 hours. Boat was for sure stored inside. No water test, I havn`t even heard it run. :^ I pick it up next weekend. If it checks out as good as it looks, I stole it and intend to drive it that way!8)

The saga continues.

Wow, LubeDude, you don't let any grass grow under your feet out there in the country. Congrats! I'm sure you are a good judge of machinery. It'll probably end up to be the cat's meow.

Awesome! Those deals can be the best. I'm sure she'll be great. I think I'd want to know the year model of the motor, if it is the same as the boat, the hour meter may be right . . . 8)

We'll expect performance data by the end of the day.

Yes, this will be the replacement. More boat than I have ever had. It`s a great set up, jack plate and all. I`m afraid to get really excited about it untill i get a chance to get it on the water. I had to buy it without a water test in as is condition, but at this point I have no reason to think that there is anything seriously wrong with it. If there was something wrong with it, he would have just handed it over, but they had to chase him down and surprise him. They found it locked in his garage so he cared enough about it to keep it out of the weather. Other than a few little scrapes, the boat looks new.

pdante,

You should probably post your own thread in this section. You'll get a more focused answer that way . . . ;)

That's a nice looking boat there, congrats! how much did u pay for it, if you don't mind to disclose it?

If it's a repo, can the previous owner recoup it?

Re: New boat to me!

If it was repo'd the previous owner is SOL!

When they repo a vehicle they notify the owner they have so many days to pay the balance plus repo and storage fees.If they don'y pay then its sold. All legal and the previous owner can do nothing but still owe who financed it.

Legally, the prior owner is sol, but sometimes people get wierd about stuff being taken away from them. That whole sense of responsibility thing escapes them. Thats why you see repo men getting shot or beaten with baseball bats. Often times repo men let local law enforcement know when and where a repo is going to happen, that way a cruiser can just so happen to be in the area when the "event" takes place....

Lube, my bossman just took purchase of a brand new Crestliner with the full pimp package and Merc Verado 150 hangin' off of the back. I'll be curious to see how that runs, I have not personally ran a Verado yet.

Re: New boat to me! [UPDATE]!

Re: New boat to me! [UPDATE]!

I brought the boat home last Saturday and havn`t done anything but register it this week.

Got on it today. First thing that needed attention was trailer lighting, repacing lights and wiring at the plug. Amazing what you find on used boats and trailers. That only took an hour and had pulled the lower unit plug before starting that project. Very little bit of milky oil came out first, but the rest was clean so I refilled it with conventional gear oil figuring that when I had the engine running on the muffs I would put it in gear for a bit and then drain it and add the Amsoil.8)

I then turned my attention to the engine. disconnected the fuel line and pumped a bit of fuel into a clean glass jar. It didn`t smell real fowl, but it did have that old gas smell a little. Fortunatly it only had about an 1/8th of a tank so I didn`t have much to drain out. I put the old gas into my Ranger PIckup. I added a full can of Seafoam to the tank and then 15 gallons of mid grade. I`ll use just regular after this though. I pumped the bulb untill the fresh gas came out and then hooked the fuel back up. I opened up each carb drain and pumped fresh fuel through each carb. I then took the oil tank out and cleaned it and filled it with Amsoil HP Injector and after completly cleaning out the bilge area I put it all back together. I removed the oil line from the pump and pumped the oil tank bulb untill the Amsoil showed up then put it back on. I cleaned every ground I could find, and pulled every connection apart and lubed them and put them back together. I lubed every moving peice of linkage I could find and the starter bendix. Then it was time. Remember, I hadn`t heard this engine run before. buying it.:^

Primmed the engine,Put the hose on it, pushed in the choke and turned it over. It didn`t start right off, So I pumped the bulb again and tried again. Varroooooom!!!! It runs. I sprayed seafom into the carbs and turned it off and had lunch. Started it back up and ran it untill the smoke cleared. Seams to run fine in the driveway!

The saga continues.
