I might be getting a G3 guide v 143 t. I would be getting the side console option but it already will come with a tiller to console conversion kit. I will be putting on a 9.8 hp nissan fourstroke which is rite at the bottom for motor suggestions. Do you guys think this is a solid boat. Approx hull weight is 510 so how fast do you think it could go fully loaded with 2 people and minimal gear? I would be using on hp minimized lakes and on the Colorado River in Arizona. Any other good boats. Thanks

Re: New Boat.

The boat is already built and has been sittin there for 2 months. I don't want to wait for them to build a new one without a console. PLus the Colorado River where i would boat you need a console to be able to stand and see ahead. How fast do you think the boat would go. Over 15 mph was wat i was told

I do not think that you will be happy with a 9.8 HP, and I'm not sure the 9.8 would be happy with pushing that boat with a standard prop.

Re: New Boat.

TX1961 why do you think that. I am not looking for a boat for speed. Just one that i can take on the lakes nearbye. THey are all 10hp limit. I have found no other boats that are comparable and can use a 9.8 engine. Plus my boat does not have a standard prop i went to a mercury dealer and they gave me like a fury prop i believe. Does anyone know how fast this combo would propel the boat

Re: New Boat.

The concern is that the boat is rated for a 40 HP motor and weighs 510 lbs dry. Add another 500 lbs in people/gear and it's near 1000 lbs.
Most any boat can use a 9.8 engine; it's just that this one appears too heavy to come up on plane with a 9.8.
It's a nice looking boat, though.

Re: New Boat.

I have also been looking at the Lowe Angler Series. They don't have all the cool features but it would much better accompany my 9.8. I was looking at the 1457 model and since i boat the colorado river i need the side console. When you look at the 1457 model in the top right it says side console optional. But then when you look at key options it doesn't show the side console. On the ones bigger it does but i dont want a bigger one.

Re: New Boat.

First, get a tiller extension so you can stand up and drive if you need to. But be careful in a small V like that.

You have diametrically opposed requirements. You are limited to 10 hp and you want speed. You cannot go fast if you insist on the 9.9 and 500# of gear and people.

Lowe's wide body models are very stable. I had a 25 on mine and now a 15; does fine. Can't give you figures. But you can't put 4 adults plus gear in it and go anywhere quickly. If you know you will be carrying people, or in open water, upsize.
An underpowered boat can be very dangerous if you have to get home in a hurry (storm brewing, medical) or against sudden adverse conditions (wind, current).
Since you are clearly fixated on your 9.9, get a second motor, 15-25, and swap them out as needed. If they are tiller and not console, it's easy. Not easy with console.
Also consider a scow/flat bottom jon boat hull rather than a V, it's far more stable. That's the Lowe I use duck hunting.

Re: New Boat.

Home cooking. I live in arizona. In all the mountain ranges for the trout alot of the lakes are on reservations so they have a hp limit of 10. There is probaly 1000 lakes like that in arizona. So if i go to lees ferry once a year I do not plan on buying a whole other motor for that. Plus the 1457 model I want is limited to 10hp. I would never have more then 2 people and alot of the times its just me and my 2 dogs 50 lbs each and a tackle box and a 10 lb cooler.

Re: New Boat.

My uncle has a 14' aluminum with a 9.9 on it that I use frequently. It's an older boat that seems pretty heavy and high-sided to me. With two people in it it goes very nicely. Maybe 20 or so.

Re: New Boat.

It seems to me the G3 is the nicer boat, but too heavy for the 9.9 on the river. The Lowe seems a bit more practical for your needs/wants. Have you thought of a flatbottom jon boat?

In the end it doesn't matter at all what we think, because none of us are gonna buy it for you. What do you think will work best for you ... what do you want to buy? Because it doesn't matter what anyone says here, you seem to have made up your mind, and you have that right.
