The motor has a charging circuit and will keep the battery topped off. They aren't real strong however so if you run a lot of accessories you might want to consider a dual battery setup. Best to keep the second battery charged at home on a charger.

Starting process for that motor: lift the warm up lever (gives it some throttle in neutral and advances timing), turn the key while pushing in on the key to activate the primer system. Once it fires you may have to push the key in a few more times to keep it running. Once it is staying running and revving up to the level the warm up lever is taking it to, lower the lever. Then you can put it in gear and go. Shifting into gear should be done swiftly and firmly. You will do this motor NO favors by easing it into gear.

Is the VRO system still being used on that motor or are you pre-mixing yourself?

The key is to get your "system" down and try and stick to it. EZ posted a great platform, and if you need to alter that a little,
that's all good, but try and be consistent with how you get her warmed up each time and you'll be a much happier person.
As for that soft spot, put something under it to tighten it up a little and then worry about this winter. Oh, and invest in a good
marine battery charger: you'll be very glad you did because there's nothing worse that ruining a day at the lake over a dead
battery.

thanks for the info...how would you guys go about stiffening up? by using what? would just a treated 2x4 or something bolted to that area across it help stiffen it up??

well I took the seats apart tonight as far as the main captains chair and the passenger chair...the mounts the seats bolt to the floor are wood, and they were just old and have had it...I took the upholstery off the seats, and pulled the wood from the fiberglass mold inside the chairs...im going to redo the plywood for the chairs...and redo the mounts with new wood....can anyone recommend what types of plywoods and woods you guys use that are light? i will probably run some water seal on each peice that I fab together.

marine grade ply is super nice but pricey. Exterior grade will work fine for seats. The Arauco ply from Lowes is super nice and has very few voids.

That small soft spot is going to turn into a large soft spot faster than you think. Peel back the carpet and assess the damage. It might be just delamination of the plywood, which may be repairable with a good soaking in epoxy and then clamping it. You may be able to splice in a small patch if the area is rotten. You need to remove all the rot or it will continue to grow.

so a bunch of hours, some wood, screws and water seal later, and my two main chairs are all good with new wood, rust free mounts, etc...I will eventually do the other smaller seats when I feel like messing with them. I am ready to put the seats back in the boat, but would love to clean up the carpet a lot more if possible!

I have found that Simple Green works well as a carpet cleaner. Do not dilute it more than 50/50 tho. Soak the carpet, let it sit a few, scrub it with a brush then vacuum it out with a shop vac.

Just wanted to say nice rig. You'll love the benefits of a fish and ski. As long as you aren't on rough water, I don't think they can be beat. Not to mention, you got a heck of a deal - that's less than 10% of what I paid for mine and your smiles will be just as big! Have fun and be safe with it.
