New Boater antics

I have had my boat on the water about 8 times so far and have about 20 Dumb A** things I'm glad nobody saw. The best was launching alone and backing down the ramp, just enough so I could shove off and tie off. I made a slight but highly significant miscalculation in how far to back up. Boat takes off.... I slam it in park and have enough time to run down the pier and LEAP into the boat James Bond style. It would have been very cool if I was saving someone ELSE's boat...
That went alot better than when I shoved off and realized I left the keys at home.

Good planning.

One up to his neck in the lake, with his thumb stuck in the drain hole.

While you tear the tow vehicle apart, looking for that darn plug!

Mike, maybe I'm misreading your story, but it sounds like you're backing down the ramp with nothing holding the boat on the trailer except friction against the bunks. Better get a safety chain or something to hold it in place until you get out and release it, or someday soon you'll be telling us about another set of antics, such as dropping your boat on the ramp before you even get to the water...

Live and learn. Everyone (well most everyone) eventually works out a system for launching and loading and improve on it so that it becomes no big deal...

How about this one.

My best friend GAVE me his 2004 2352 Trophy...mint condition and 96hrs on the clock.

Winter is aproaching here fast (British Columbia)...verry fast. SO me and the kid want to take it out for the "Maiden Voyage"

Saturday was just above freezing and raining all day, "Well tomorrow we will take it out rain or shine"
Tomorrow comes with blue skys, and a nice 10c...sweeeeet!

Off we go to the lake, only 2 boat launches on the 30mile long lake(average depth of about 250")...BIG waves happen here....sweet

Anyhoooo. off we go to the far end of the lake to the only 2 launches.
DA-YUM...lake too low to use either


We stoof there pouting for about 20min then came home and did yard work.

That was my first experiance....and I even had the plug in the hull.


Ya might be seeing me arround here more often.

I always try to keep a spare set of keys in the tow vehicle for just such a problem. I also keep at least one extra drain plug on the boat, just in case.

Why do guys keep drains plugs in the truck?

Anyway, one of the best Ramp Follies was a guy forgot to untie the boat from the trailer. One guy at the helm to start the motor and drive the boat off the trailer. Because the boat was still secure to the trailer and no way that boat was gonna' pull the truck into the water, all that happened was the boat/trailer went sideways and the trailer fender jammed underneath the dock.

Of course the ramp was busy.

Dang, that is a good friend. Forget the rest of the story, that is all I needed to hear. If someone gave me that boat, heck, he could have the keys to the wife. . . Well, maybe not, but pretty much whatever else he wanted.

At a very small lake last year we were trout fishing and saw a fellow put his wife in a small boat, back into the water and gave the boat just that little "extra" ommmmf as he stopped, to get it moving off the trailor..well it DID..she has no oars(they are in the truck still) and no other means to power this boat...(lake is electric motor only or oars). we heard the wife yelling at her husband and looked up to see her sailing away(was windy too, LOL). Of course this is a small lake, about 50 acres, but the wife was not happy! She tried hands, no good there...finally another guy came over and towed her back in. Then they put their oars in the water and I would bet his ears were burning a little!
