Re: new boater, needs help

OK...if this is what you are calling the bellhousing then we aren't talking about the same piece. The piece I was talking to that guy about was the piece that this AND the gimbal ring sit in. The piece that that big square-splined bolt connect the gimbal to. It the piece that actually bolts to and touches the rear of the boat.

 That's the gimbal housing.... Gee, look what I found up in the 'stickies'... They are there so people can refer to them so we are all talking about the same thing...

nitro........Looking at the picture that Achris posted....It has a name, either a Bell housing, Gimble Ring or a Gimble housing

THE ONE WITH THE GIMBLE BEARING IN IT..... IS CALLED THE GIMBLE HOUSING!

Good Luck!

I am referring to the hole that the gimbal bearing sits in INSIDE the gimbal housing. That's what has been destroyed. .There is no name for it in the pics. I wasn't trying to be rude but there was no need for him to be that way.

Yes there is, it's called the "Gimbal Housing"

I thought you were talking about the Gimbal Ring the whole time.

In order to fix it you have to replace the whole housing...........

Id just go with the used route...... Look for the whole unit as archis sugested.

No one on here can tell you if yours is bad or not with out pics.........

Me..just me, i would remove the old gimble housing off the boat and have a good look at the transom wood....That will tell the money story!

Good Luck!

Yeah I figured I'd have to replace the whole thing once I seen the bearing and gimbal housing torn to shreds. Not sure if I want a used one simply because you never know how well someone took care of it. People dont care to burn you these days. Its all about money, no one has any self respect anymore. If it was a Mustang I would buy it used because I can rebuild those blind folded. But I just dont know enough about boats to really know what I'm looking for.

I will definitely be looking at the transome to see if it has any weak or rotten spots. I dont want to put all this money in the boat for it to end up at the bottom of the river...lol. So far as I've taken stuff out of the boat everything seems solid. I've not found any structural issues at all. Let's hope that luck continues. Anyway, thanks to everyone trying to help me and being patient with my lack of knowledge about boats. Everyone has to start somewhere, rite? ...lol

Re: new boater, needs help

Salutatorian, you came on this forum, for free, and had one of the most knowledgeable, patient, and generous men on this forum, offer you spoon fed help with your problem. He does not get paid. Chris has almost 9 years and 13,000 posts to his name. He has earned respect. So you are "new to boating" ? Does that give you the right to call that man an A-hole and a Nazi? There are two pages of posts of him guiding you through your issues. He took the time to look up that transom assembly diagram with the proper names of things, not to "school you", but so he, and the rest of us no what your talking about! Your very next post calls the Gimbal Housing, big as life in the diagram he posted for you, "the big ring thing". That's insulting, and confusing. Nobody knows what the "big ring thing" is. The gimbal ring, the gimbal housing? I have never seen a more disrespectful post than yours. "I wasn't trying to be rude" your wrote. Really,! You owe that man an apology. I don't know why anyone on this forum would offer help to you without said apology

Ayuh,.... It's either the Gimbel Housing, or the Gimbel Bearing,...

The Gimbel Bearing includes it's carrier/ mounting ring,....

Please follow 84EdH's advice,... Disrespect will Not be tolerated,....
