What 4 barrel carb would you guys recommend using on a ford 302?
Has 351 heads a new comp cam, lifters pushrods and a new dual plane manifold.

Sounds like a street rod. Make sure it has a great automatic choke for cold areas.

600-650 CFM Holley Marine. You have a choice of 4150 or 4160 series

Holley sells a version of the 4160 that’s already set up for the Ford 302….

The challenge with these jobs is usually the accelerator linkage; Edlebrocks work well on Mercs because you could prob use the same brackets used with the Weber, on OMCs & Volvos, Holley might be easier because they both used Holley carbs after Quadrajet production stopped.

Finally found that it is approved for marine use on the JEGS website.
Yeah i think you were the only one that didnt know that... the eddy 1409 and 1410 are marine rated (600 and & 750 cfm respectively) and are basically copies of the webber carbs Merc used a while back

to the OP - depending on what his original set up was for carb and throttle linakge- I think the 2 bbl carbs were rochester and the 4 bbl were holley originally.

merc has throttle brackets for rochester, holley , and Webber Edlebrock.

I went from a merccarb (essentially a rochester) to a Edlebrock n1409 when I repowered, used the merc throttle bracket they use for the webber carbs on the reman 357 Alpha/bravo motors for a nice factory looking set up

I don't know if Mercruiser offered the 302 in a 4bbl. A Holley 2bbl 500cfm is pretty the perfect size for a 302 spinning up to 5000rpm, which is far higher than the Marine 302s ever turned

I know Edelbrock has had marine carbs for years and they have literature claiming USCG approval but USCG approval comes with an approval number and I have not seen that anywhere.

they did

in the link https://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercruiser-sterndrive-parts/

there are listings about halfway down for 302's

888 was 2 bbl, the 215, 225, & 225S were 4 bbl

of course these were a long time ago... if you click on the links tlo the carbs looks like the 4 bbls were all holleys, the 888 was made with both Rochester and Holley 2 bbls.

On my original marine Quadrajet there is no stamp on it indicating compliance with marine certification but if you look up the serial # on the side it’s identified as a marine carb. I have a spare carb in the garage (Holley 4160) and when I get a chance I’ll take a look. Marine inboard carbs have J tubes for the bowl vent (although original Quads only have the stock tube with an angled cut in it), and the fitting for the mechanical fuel pump overflow. They also are supposed to have different bushings to prevent throttle plate leaks but when my needle valve failed it still leaked gas on the intake!
